My self-summary
Affectionate, warm, smart, occasionally adorably funny...I am stable, employed, healthy, and sane and I would like the same from my partner.
-I like to read (fiction, the NY Times, health magazines, anything about food) and discuss current events, politics, movies, cheesy TV, the presidential debates, the awards shows (only the big ones)... I watch lusciously romantic Jane Austen movies.
-I'm interested in how people in other parts of the world live. I love dogs and am completely impressed with their ability to live in the moment. I play tennis, walk everywhere, and occasionally dabble in Yoga, especially the easy poses like Child's pose and Corpse position.
-I cook and eat and read about food (shrimp with garlicky olive oil and quinoa--my latest creation). Chocolate is always on my mind. I'm interested in the arts and theatre and like a swanky bar or a tiny hole-in-the-wall joint.
- On a night home with friends, I wouldn't be above playing charades, twister, monopoly (and baking a fabulous but probably lopsided cake to go with the evening). Also, I have the bad habit of always being on time. I tend to be an early riser.
-I would say I'm a pessimistic optimist. I question everything but ultimately I want to believe in rainbows and magic and all that is good and right with the world. I teach public speaking and debate. I think my students would say I am a charismatic and creative teacher (at least that’s what I’d like them to say).
What I’m doing with my life
I teach public speaking and debate to international students, and I love it. I also act in local community theatre, occasionally go to the Tuesday night drop-in meditation group down the street (where sometimes I actually meditate, and sometimes I just think long and deeply about what I'll have for dessert when I get home), and try to do good in this world. I also bake, explore, and observe.
I’m really good at
I've listened to so much PBS, I can now say I'm really good at putting on an English accent (thank you Downton Abbey), helping others, listening and offering support/advice, showing enthusiasm, asking questions, being affectionate, teaching, tennis, kissing all the puppies, whipping up a bechamel wine sauce without a recipe, and baking (I make a mean chocolate chip cookie). And I'm good with old people (and interested in their lives).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Everything from health and cook books, all of Jane Austen, Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl, The Tender Bar...Mindy Kaling from The Office wrote a book which I actually laughed out loud from...The Bronte sisters...I'm reading Salmon Rushdie's latest memoir. (sidebar: I had to stop reading Rushdie's memoir--parts of it were very interesting, but he was starting to exhaust me)

TV: Downton Abbey, The Office, Bill Maher, and I've just started in on Homeland and have become addicted.

Movies: Silver Linings Playbook, Every version of Pride and Prejudice, Bridesmaids (how refreshing to see that women can be as repulsive as men), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Strictly Ballroom, Mad Hot Ballroom, Rebecca, The Birds...

Food: Those Italian rainbow cake/cookies that have jam in the middle and chocolate on the outside and taste like marzipan, Avocados, Strawberries, Eggplant, Chopped Liver (that's right, I said chopped liver), fresh ginger, dumplings of all varieties, Magnolia cupcakes, and champagne!

Music: Big band music from the 30's and 40's, jazz, blues, 80's pop music... almost everything.

Shows: I love live theatre--I just saw The Book of Mormon at the Opera House--very good.
The six things I could never do without
Dental floss, the wind coming through the windows, chapstick, sunscreen, chocolate cake, stories, the golden autumn sky, a good book to get lost in, puppy kisses, and a hot shower! But I'm quite sure I could do without all this, at least for a time. (I just realized I listed more than 6 things)...I also just realized I didn't list friends or family. Okay, that goes without saying.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food (in particular, the food group called Cake), nutrition, where I'll go on vacation, how to do good in this world, what my next creative endeavor will be, and especially, why oh why my hair won't do what I want it to do.
On a typical Friday night I am
Dinner or drinks with friends, a movie, live theatre, baking, reading, on my couch happily doing nothing, a steaming hot bath.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I eat nutella right out of the jar (who has time to spread it on a croissant? or whatever it's supposed to go on...)

You should message me if
If you love to laugh, like to read and talk (about the movie we just saw, what's happening in the news, that weird new neighbor...), if you're actually looking for a partner in life, feel mostly comfortable with who you are right now, and can resolve conflict in a healthy and drama-free way. Also, if you're not topless in your profile picture, that's a definite plus.
