My self-summary
I used to have a bunch of short, terse sentences that were facts about myself in here, but I realized that some of them were inaccurate after a couple years. For one, I stopped drinking coffee, and I have grown since the last time I talked about myself. I guess that's the most important fact about me. I change. I grow. I love to learn. Painful lessons as well as the fluffy, life-affirming stuff. I'm not the person I thought I'd be, but I'm not disappointed in myself.

I have a pretty active brain, and that's a double-edged sword too I guess. I like my brain a lot though. I don't know if it's arrogant to be impressed with my problem-solving, but I'm not going to lie. Sometimes, I can do some kick-ass troubleshooting. Lifelong learner is an apt description, corny as it may sound.

I can be pretty crafty, as in making things not as in villainous. Some of my favorite gifts I've ever gotten were handmade, and that's not just a sentimental copout. I like the process of making things, especially when you have to think about the person you're crafting for and alter your normal way of doing things to suit their needs. That's why I like getting homemade gifts.

I do also relax, I promise. I'm not crazed and intense every moment. I can be content binge-watching a show or hanging out. People watching is always most fun when there's high dog traffic, and the beach makes me smile involuntarily.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working at a non-profit and writing sometimes. I like knitting, doing crafty things, and reading. I also like playing the occasional video game and watching useless television.
I’m really good at
cooking, wasting time, and data. I'm pretty fast. I don't know if I'm good at it, but I like making people happy.
The first things people usually notice about me
maybe my hair. It's pretty long, curly and red.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books- The Namesake, Naked, Discipline and Punish, The Tricky Part.
Movies- I Heart Huckabees, Goodbye Lenin, The Nightmare Before Christmas. I'm not as good at watching a movie all the way through.
Music- Anything well-thought out and composed. I really dislike the auto-tune trend, so I have the tendency towards singers who have flaws and personality in their voices. Amy Ray, Billie Holiday, and Ben Folds all come to mind.
TV- I'm kind of a junkie. Sci-fi (Battlestar Gallactica, Star Trek, MST3K to name a few) Drama (Downton Abbey, Mad Men) Comedy (Spaced, The Office, 30Rock, Parks and Rec).
Food- Lots and lots of vegetables with lots of hot sauce. There are not too many vegetables I'm not a fan of (in case it's not obvious, I'm a vegetarian) I really like trying new things. My favorite cuisines are Southwestern, Thai, Ethiopian, and fusion cuisines.
The six things I could never do without
Clothes, computer, running shoes, cell phone, ipod, and headphones
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How fear rules my actions and what I can do about that. What connection really requires of people. All suffering comes from desire. Being more comfortable with gray areas. Generosity. Why I still can't bring myself to watch the last season of The X-Files.
On a typical Friday night I am
It depends on the week. Sometimes I'm at the gym. Or a happy hour. Lately, I've been working a lot on Friday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My family is full of professional subject-changers. As such, I can be a bit difficult to pin down sometimes.
You should message me if
you like to nerd out.
