My self-summary
I am a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism--a medieval re-creation group), I love movies (sci-fi, fantasy, comedy, action/adventure, etc.) and I am a voracious reader. I love most kinds of music, and have some seriously happy feet (I love to dance--especially bellydancing). I am well-educated, but am not stuffy or pedantic. I am a sucker for romance, but I also like football, hockey, bawdy humor, and other traditionally "guy" activities. My mother was a trucker, a welder, and a Harley mechanic, and although this is my model of femininity, I can also comport myself as a "lady" when appropriate. My best friend calls me a "social chameleon". I am just as likely to be reading Shakespeare or Chaucer as I am to be reading David Eddings, Jim Butcher, Kelly Armstrong, etc. Frequently all at the same time *chuckles*.
Disclaimer: Although I am a geek and proud of it (I like Star Trek, Star Wars, Harry Dresden, Comic and Horror Conventions, DragonCon, Internet/PC/console gaming, etc.), I am not a fanatic. I have never used "geek jargon" in a conversation with a non-geek, and I don't own a Star Trek uniform (although I am learning how to speak Klingon). *laughs*

I play almost every single-reeded woodwind (the bass clarinet is my favorite), vessel flutes (like the ocarina), the dumbek (drum), zills (finger cymbols), castanets, and the spoons (the Turkish variety, not the southern hambone thing....although my dad is really good at that!) My granddaddy played the mouth harp and the saw (sounds Hawaiian, don't it?-- You get MAJOR major points if you get that reference!) Yeah. We are Appalachian folk. Not like Deliverance, or anything. But close. I used to have a major crush on my cousin (but it's not my fault! He is HAWT!) *chuckles*

I am feisty, well-educated, and flexible

What I’m doing with my life
I have four wonderful, amazing children, and I am a stay at home mom. I have a zest for life and gaining knowledge that seems to filter down to my kids. I like to go camping and go to SCA events, as well as dancing on the weekends. I like to play pool, but I am not very good at it. Might be all that "aiming fluid" I drink while playing. *winks* I get through my days with joy and laughter from the children in my life, but I long for more grown up interactions. It is hard for me to meet potential new friends as I pretty much only go out to play pool and go dancing. I would like to change that.

I’m really good at
I have a wicked sense of humor and am the proverbial optimist. I am a really good storyteller, and have seemingly unlimited patience. I used to be a professional bellydancer. I am also a really good listener, ironically. I am an excellent cook but I prefer baking.
Stupid Human Tricks: my left thumb is double-jointed. I can swallow with a spoon in my mouth (if you don't think that is difficult, try it. *grins* It makes my husband very happy that I can do that *smirks*). I can whistle in as well as out. My head is full of useless knowledge (trivia). I can purr like a cat, in my throat. If I see something in a show/movie that has a strong aroma, like baking cookies or bugspray, I can smell it like it is in the room with me. *shrugs* I guess I have a vivid imagination.

The first things people usually notice about me
The first thing most people notice about me is that I am a very outgoing wench with a thirst for life and adventure. I love attention, and I thrive on compliments. Which is probably why I am such a ham. I am a very visceral person, and also very loving, kind, and flexible. I am the grand negotiator/compromiser. I believe there is almost always a win/win solution....
Physically, I guess the first thing people notice about me are my eyes. I have been told they have an exotic slant. Either that or my bodacious ta-tas. *chuckles* Although ok cupid removed my cleavage pic. *pouts* Oh, and I should probably add that I am not at all slender. In fact, I am "substantial". *grins*

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: fantasy/sci-fi, horror, etc. I read almost anything I get my hands on. My fav authors are David Eddings, Kelly Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Steven King, J.K. Rowling, Tolkien, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Jasper Fforde, Ly de Angeles, Holly Black, Kim Harrison, L.A. Banks, Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, and the like. I also read directions, washing and care instructions, the weather, and lips. (Ok, I am done....I am not OCD or anything, I was just using hyperbole.....heh) *laughs*
Movies: I love most movies having to do with kick-ass action and visual beauty. (I LOVE wire-fu!) Not really into chick flicks, with some notable exceptions: "Practical Magic", "Hope Floats", and "Kate and Leopold". I think "Tank Girl" and any Monty Python movie would count as my favorites. "Matrix", "X-Men", "Constantine", etc. "Sin City" made me utter a string of expletives whilst viewing it *chuckles*. Very powerful film. As for music, I like anything with a pumping, throbbing ryhthm line: classic rock, pop, world beat, middle eastern, jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, etc. As long as there are no screaming guitars or vocals, I tend to like it. The Ramones make me happy as I travel in the "way back" machine of my youth.
Food: Sushi, Mexican, Hunan, Szechuan, Greek, Indian, Middle Eastern, Cajun, Seafood, Outback and TGIFridays are my favorites. Baklava and spanakopita make me weak in the knees *chuckles* Anything made with fillo dough is a very likely candidate for making my tastebuds happy.

The six things I could never do without
The six things I could never do without are: (I didn't include the basics of survival here, because that is not the purpose of this section. Also, my family is not a "thing", so I didn't include them here, either.)
(1) intellectual stimulation
(2) humor/joy/viral videos (Where the Hell is Matt gives me much joy...as does Free Hugs)
(3) human touch--I love hugs, and I tend to touch a person's knee or their arm when telling a story. Physical connection (not necessarily sexual).
(4) good friends (I prefer quality to quantity)
(5) beautiful countryside (I don't think I could live in a barren desert, for example. Oregon is what I call "Calendar Coutry". Everywhere you look is a candidate for a picture on a beautiful calendar.)
(6) my extensive book, music, and movie libraries

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking about damn near everything. Heh. My mind is constantly busy. What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about? Why aren't there more blue foods? If light is both a wave AND a particle, what are the solid, liquid, and gaseous forms of light? If a tree falls in a forest, and no one is around to hear it, who gets the timber rights? If the speed of light is 299,792,458 m/s, what is the speed of dark? I know there is white meat and red meat, but isn't it all really kind of pinkish? What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

On a typical Friday night I am
With four small children, there is no such thing as a typical Friday night. *laughs* But lately my husband and I have instituted a regular "Date night" on Fridays (we send the kids to their rooms and we hang out together in the kitchen playing games and talking about things NOT having to do with finances or the children).
