My self-summary
Alas, people have no love for uniqueness in profiles, so I'm going back to a slightly less funny, but slightly more informative profile.

I write software for a living and I'm a scientist at heart. I believe that science is a controlled creative process. I'm a creative person, but I'm a terrible artist (failed kindergarten art, really!?!?, who does that?!? ME.)

I'm looking for friends more than anything, someone to go exploring with, but I'm open to more if it happens. I get along best with other science types, but those who are passionate and creative are always welcome.
What I’m doing with my life
It's all about the science with me. Something will set off the spark, and the next thing you know I'm hunched over a napkin with a pen building something. My background is physics, biology, and of course my beloved logic. If you're in the sciences, it's bonus points, if you're in biology, it's even more (bio girls are yummy, yeah yeah, I'm weird I know).

Just trying to find like-minded people, a community of geeks, nerds, and just intelligent folks who are looking to get past the screen in front of their desks. Communities are either fallen into or built, and one way or another, I want to begin trying to find one that suits me.

Also, I'm looking for that person who can be my best friend, all romanticism aside. Since coming back to San Diego, I've realized all of my old friends have really found wonderfully happy lives of their own, but we've grown apart a bit. A case of "You can't go home again." apparently. Still though, whether its catching a show, or seeing someone give a talk, or staying up until 3AM chatting about beautiful bullshit, I want that person. Bonus points if you can wingman, more bonus points if you believe in what you're selling.
I’m really good at
Being an angry scientist, not mad, angry, this involves generally being cantankerous, and sciencing.

Taking things apart, though perhaps not as good at putting them back together.

I recently sold cookies, cupcakes and washed cars to help out our space program. Got to meet a good punch of kids from UCLA and CalTech. I have great hope for the future.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have a mean face. I'm not mean, I just have one of those faces (thanks mom and dad!). I'm also apparently a lot more intimidating (before you get to know me) than I actually am.

It's also of note that the only people I manage to accidentally intimidate are adults. Anyone under about 12 usually thinks I'm the bee's knees.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Orson Scott Card, Tim Powers, Neil Gaimon, Douglass Adams occasionally Sedaris and Barry

Movies: Y tu mama tambien, princess bride, Python and movies by Gilliam, Big Fish, Big Lebowski, Being John Malkovich, RHPS,

Shows: House, Shin-chan, Big Bang Theory, Arrested Development, Scrubs, Breaking Bad, How I met your Mother. I don't really watch a lot of T.V. anymore.

Music: There's a special place in my heart for the Dolby song, 'She blinded me with science'. It's my guilty pleasure. Science!

I tend to like fun music. I'm pretty open with tastes, and most stuff will grow on me pretty quickly given a chance. I personally gravitate towards acoustic sounds, more folk rock than country.

Stuff on my current playlist is Eric Kufs/Common Rotation, 10k maniacs, Natalie Merchant, Ally Kerr, Jon Coulton, The Like, Lily Allen, Rilo Kiley/Jenny Lewis, Tegan and Sara, Ray Lamontagne, Of Monsters and Men. I can get used to anything, but I tend to like accoustic sounds.

Food: I'm rather exploratory when it comes to my pallet, though when I'm cooking I tend to run spicy or rich foods with a lot of vegetables. I have this odd penchant for vegetarian cuisine, though I'm in no way a vegetarian (meat rocks for texture).
The six things I could never do without
Amazing friends - and I have the best you could ask for, they really are the family I'm proud to have chosen.

Duct Tape - Because Duct Tape will fix everything.

Some sort of computer and way to power it.

Tools.

Hell, as long as I have these, we can build everything else we need, then ride it into town on a giant robot.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
making things or making them better
how fun it is to use learning for evil
how lucky I've managed to be, sometimes I look out on the island on which I work and see all the jets and the beach and my inner twelve year old squees with joy.

For every dollar a man makes a woman makes 70 cents...that's not right, that's not fair, a man would only have like...30 cents left.
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately it's been relaxing with movies, or hanging out with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I like to sing karaoke, I like to go dancing (swing).

I'm also a bit of a geek (YOU DON'T SAY!?). Conventions (A/X in LA, CC here in SD, SigGRAPH, Gaming cons), occasionally I've had the pleasure of getting up on stage and talking about stuff.

A wise man once said, 'When I become supreme ruler, everyone must change their name to Joe, because I never want to be that kind of dictator that forgets the names of all the little people whom he's had to oppress in order to get this far.'

Such very wise words.

  • Ages 18–38

You should message me if
You want to.

You've taken heart in realizing that somewhere at the end of the bell curve is someone just for you.

You've taken a look at the questions I answer. I try to put a lot of effort into them to give you an idea of the person I am.

If you're still on the fence, just do it. I'm a ridiculously nice person and will always say hello back (provided you're not a putz). I would love to hear from you.
