Well, this story takes place in my woods. The wolf we know but the hermit we don't know yet. So for the story I will say this much; he is the reclusive heart. He is either a hermit or at least a hunter in my land. I am not sure which but as long as he respects the land I will respect hem. Well, on with the story.

This story starts with our friend the wolf in a tired and weakened state. He hasn't recovered from his ordeal completely and has only some sense of where he is. Others have tried to help this poor animal but failed or gave up. The Wolf had healed enough to patrol its land a little and still quite guarded and cautious when it comes to strangers trying to help.

Well of all the people to gain the trust of this animal was a hermit. This traveler had watch the animal for a little while before decided it was safe to approach. "There is no harm from such a creature in such a state and my own skill. I might even make a new friend in these strange lands." The hermit came and visited now and then offering what he had and accepted what was offered when if caught his interest.

Time passed and the wolf grew strong once again, but the old hermit kept coming around to see what the wolf would share today. The hermit even came to appreciate the wolf's company and assistance in hunting. never asking more then what he felt would be offered. this small kindness earned the man the wolf's protection and companionship. The wolf has its own life and stays near the hermit for only as long as there paths cross.

This wolf does not completely trust the hermit, there are to many unanswered questions. and the ones that have answers are not favorable.

This kindness of the hermit earned the wolf's respect and protection when others could not understand what was really needed. Even the hermit doesn't know what was needed other then the simple answer time. This forest cares for its own as best it can. Everything has its limits, even the speed of recovery and the willingness to do so.

The wolf stays close and keeps an eye out for danger well watching the hermit to better learn who he really is and why he is still here. This simple act does not go unnoticed. The hermit still shares what it can. He realizes he can't rule this beast yet, nor does he wish to for now.

The wolf of our story knows enough to watch the man for one day he might turn on hem in a time of great need. For now, he is safe and so pays more mind to protecting then watching for threats from the hermit.

The wolf is no pet here, but rather a bond of protection and gratitude. A loyal friend with a passive demeanor towards the hermit. Willing to help when asked but only on his own terms.
