My post-HS education is in engineering, but I wouldn't say I'm your typical engineer. I enjoy outdoor activities, although I can find just as much fun stuff to do indoors. I am constantly looking for information to sponge up, usually through reading or listening to podcasts. I like helping other people learn, often via tutoring. Most people describe me as kind, loyal, funny, and easy to get along with. I try to avoid drama at all costs, but am capable of dealing with confrontation when necessary. Laughter is the best medicine. That's the compressed version. Keep reading if you want to know more.
I grew up as an Air Force brat, which meant moving about every 3 years. I spent 9 of those years in Europe. I went to HS and college in Tucson, which I consider to be my home town. It's my favorite location out of all the places I've lived. My favorite people in the world are my little cousins, who are more like nieces and nephews to me. I love to travel, whether it be a day-long road trip or a week-long airplane trip. Adventures keep me on my toes, which I like. I always like playing with new gadgets, but they are forgotten after 10 years, while memories last a lifetime. Some day I hope to retire and tour the country in an RV. I enjoy what I do for a living, however it's not my life. I always enjoy a challenge, especially if it involves fixing something. I try to get out on my motorcycle whenever I can. I play beach volleyball whenever I have the opportunity. I like playing board games and video games with my friends. Most people would consider me a nerd, although I can hold a conversation with just about anybody.
I don't drink, smoke, or use drugs, although I've done all of those things to a considerable extent at some point in my life. I don't have anything against people that do, it's just not for me. Every once in a while someone asks if I'm a Mormon, to which I can only respond with laughter. I consider myself spiritual, although I'm skeptical of organized religion. Maybe some day I will find one that works for me. My biggest life lesson over the years has been open-mindedness. Most people tend to become more close-minded over time, whereas I find the opposite occurring with me. I love kids. I tutor high schoolers in math and science and do an after-school math program for middle schoolers.
I am always content when listening to music. I find that just about every genre has some talented artists to offer. Listening to my iPod helps the day go by faster. I've often been told that my musical tastes are impossible to put in any box. Some of my favorites are David Gray, Pearl Jam, Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies, Nickel Creek, Ven Halen, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, and Coldplay. I started reading books again regularly a couple years ago. My favorite type is non-fiction, although I occasionally mix it up. I like watching movies, but don't get around to it much. I watch TV, but not a lot. I am kind of a sports junkie. Football is my favorite, although I can watch just about any sports.
The type of person I'm looking for would be stable, kind, athletic, adventurous, and contented. Being comfortable with kids and having a good sense of humor are a must. I have a full life and would expect the same out of someone who I'd be interested in. Common interests are great, but I'm not looking for a clone of myself.
