My self-summary
Hi! I'm John - an Engineer and an Artist. I have a day job that challenges my mind and earns me a comfortable living, and I'm fortunate to have a modicum of talent - enough of a classically trained voice to perform professionally at the DCPA a few times a year. I love all things artistic - the symphony, opera, theater, ballet, museum; you name it, I'll want to go! I have a discerning appetite for artistic things and an interest in history, politics, sociology, and psychology, and I hope you enjoy sharing thoughts on any or all of these as I like to share perspectives and learn. When the weather turns warmer (50 degrees or up), I'll likely be in the mountains, or trying to figure out when I can next get up, for a bike trip, hike, car camp, B&B, Hot Spring, motorcycle ride... or recovering at home watching Netflix or buried in a good book. In the winter, well, I'm in my first home without a fireplace, and I REALLY miss it! Blankets work well, but not as much fun :) I would love to share these things with a special someone...

I'm pretty fit, though I'm not crazy about it - I work out 3 or 4 times a week, mountain bike, road bike, hike, etc, but not every day. I hope to find someone who is also active and healthy...

Dancing is something I've enjoyed as well over the years. I've had a couple of years of social tango lessons, some swing and salsa too, though it's been a while. I pick things up rather quickly and I've been told I've got a very good lead :)

Hmm - I seem to get my fair share of matches with women who are conservative in their politics. I'm pretty liberal, and I think if you are someone who swings the other way we are not likely to see things the same way when it comes to history, foreign policy, guns, morality, sociology, whether or not dogs have souls, ... well, you get the idea :)

As you'd expect, a regular listener of CPR - music (both classical as well as Open Air), news, wait wait, etc etc :)

ISFJ - But just barely, for those that are interested in that kind of thing. According to the test's scale, "Slight for I, S, and F, and almost equal J and P" I'm an extroverted type B :)

Started yoga about 2 months ago, went about every other day for a month's unlimited membership and about half way through had the 'ahah' moment. Really enjoying it now...
What I’m doing with my life
I've been an empty nester for 4 years now, and have recently moved to Westminster/Broomfield, from 20 years in south Denver, where I raised my 2 kids. At this point, I'm still searching - if that's an answer :) But, I'm loving life, enjoying travel every now and then (and would do more if I had someone wanting to get out of town for a weekend or week or more), performing, and reading. I typically gravitate towards history and the classics: currently I'm trying to get through Mark Twain's autobiography - the first book that's ever made me seriously think about getting a Kindle (I love old/used hard back books), and recently read Mutiny on the Bounty and a biography of John Brown. Also this past summer discovered hiking poles, which has given me a new lease on hiking (my knees are not what they used to be), and I think I might be up for trying my 16th 14er this summer. I did Greys 2 summers ago with my kids and couldn't make it up Torries (would have been my 3rd time), which was really really disappointing since my kids were all over it. BUT huge difference hiking in the foothills and Dillon this past summer with the new equipment!
I’m really good at
Umm - everything? Nothing? Jack of all trades, you know?
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm more attractive than my pictures. Either that or they're being kind! Seriously, I'm told that I have a sexy voice; particularly over the phone - one of my brothers has done a fair amount of theater, another was a morning radio DJ for AFKN in Seoul and Berlin, and (as I said) I sing - Bass Baritone is my voice classification.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music - Coldplay, Garbage, Self, Creed, Verdi, Mahler, Brahms, Chopin, Anna Nalick, Audioslave, Deep Purple, Diana Krall, Imogen Heap, Zeppelin, Natalie Cole, Porcupine Tree, Prokofiev, Queens of the Stone Age...
Shows - House Of Cards, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Orange Is The New Black, Mad Men, and pretty much anything SciFi.
Books (easier to say authors) - Isabel Allende, Marquez, Barbara Tuchman, Dickens, Voltaire, Twain, Dumas, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Steinbeck
The six things I could never do without
Music, Family, Intimacy, Intellectual Stimulation, Friendship, and Sleep!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Whether or not we'll survive as a species...
On a typical Friday night I am
Well, for now, on this site!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Actually I'm pretty much an open book and am comfortable sharing anything :)
