Joshua, from TN, Photographer, Filmmaker, Entrepreneur, Healthy eater, Cook, 8 years in the city, 5 siblings (4 adopted), former apple employee, Centrist, super calm, dog person, passport stamper, INFJ who wants kids some day
Here are some more snippets for the rest of you:
-I'm on OKCupid because I want to be in a relationship. The problem is that you're not going to find me in a bar, I work alone, and I'm a socially adjusted INFJ introvert in an extroverted city. And I want kids at some point. So yeah, I'm an anomaly.
-my INFJ personality is literally the rarest, especially among men
-Photography is all I've ever known. I started in the pre-Instagram age of darkrooms and film at the age of 14 and I've never done much else. My money comes from photographing very expensive weddings all over the world and sometimes getting a little jealous of the love I document
-Peekamoose swimming hole and Great Captains Island are my two favorite local swimming spots. I'll take you anytime.
-I love to travel like everyone else here. I'm lucky that my job pays for lots of international trips. Ravello Italy and Tulum Mexico are high on the list of places I've been, Buenos Aires, Tanzania, and Croatia are high on the places I want to be.
-I've been here for 8 years, lived in CA, UT, TN, KY, GA before that but I still have a southern personality (with a little bit of low key western and NYC ambition). I value kindness, loyalty, and well made biscuits.
-Although I am extremely calm, I'm also full of ideas and curiosity. I'm an entrepreneur working on launching new new brand that will sell travel goods. The latest news is that I have designed a line of camera/travel bags as the first product that's launching on Kickstarter.
-The only way that I am able to survive NYC is by getting the hell out of town as often as possible. I have a Jeep and a Vespa that take me on nearly weekly trips to the Hudson Valley, Montauk, Berkshires, etc. I also have memberships to the zoo, botanical garden, and the natural history museum, mostly for the sake of my 3 year old nephew that I love to hang with.
-I recently bought a Victorian home in the Hudson Valley which is 1 hour north of the city. I'm looking forward to peace and quiet, knowing my neighbors, and having a washing machine. And being 15 minutes from multiple hiking trails and lakes.
-I am not interested in busyholics. It's my main incompatibility with New Yorkers (women in relationships and men in friendships). I believe in working efficiently, choosing my friends wisely, and savoring my experiences so that I don't have to fill my calendar to feel fulfilled and accomplished.
-About 2 years ago I decided to start eating a lot more plants. I hate to be pigeonholed as a vegetarian or vegan, but I certainly lean that direction. Its purely for health reasons, and I also don't beat myself up if I want a Shake Shack burger every few months.
-I have two primary dreams right now. One is to live in Italy full time. The second is to take cooking classes at the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park and eventually open a little restaurant (healthy southern vegetables)
-I grew up religious in the south. Although I don't align with most religious people culturally or politically anymore, I still appreciate the lessons it taught me and the friends I still have. Religion can be a source of good in the world, but its not the only source. It can certainly also be a source of ignorance and hatred.
-I lean liberal on most things politically, but after growing up in the south, I have empathy for conservatives and libertarians. Morale of the story is that I am serious about being a centrist and listening to viewpoints that I might initially disagree with. I sometimes change my position and I don't view that as a weakness.
-I would like to spend more time and money on the arts here in the city. I go to concerts and museums, but don't go to enough ballets, operas, or plays.
