I am funny, smart, and creative.
My Self-Summary
I like puppies, bubble baths by candlelight, long walks on the
beach, sunsets – no really!
I like to travel [I know you all like to travel] – but I spent 6
months in Australia, lived a year in Ireland, been to China,
Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, all over Mexico & the Caribbean,
and all 49 states [Alaska, not yet], and some other places. Next
trip – Machu Pichu, Ankor Wat, Rwanda, Ikea, Bandon Dunes, or some
other interesting destination. Or maybe a B&B on the Oregon
Coast, or even the Hill Country. I like places that have the buzz
of past [or maybe future] humanity – Stonehenge, Sedona, Ten Sleep,
the Museo Anthropologico de Ciudad Mexico, anyplace with a Diego
Rivera mural [but especially Maxmillian’s Palace], and this little
dry gulch on a tributary of the North Platte River almost in South
Dakota.
I like being 200 miles offshore in an eighty foot sailboat, SCUBA
diving at night, cheeseburgers and mashed potatoes. Contentment and
peace come to me when connected with Nature and in touch with my
place in the Cosmos. I like to golf and read; go to movies, dance,
and lectures; eat [in or out], cook [mostly in], draw, work
[architecture really isn’t work for me], sleep, hike, travel [you
probably got that], and have long interesting conversation with
intelligent people. I like an occasional good [sometimes
contraband] cigar while drinking good [but always legal] Bourbon on
the golf course with the “guys.”
I’m a planner – yet I flew to Australia for 6 months with just a
backpack, and no place to stay that night. I’m an Architect – which
is highly technical, but still creative and artistic. I think Golf
is a great metaphor for life – but I’m a pretty lousy golfer. I’m
very spiritual, but not very religious. I’m romantic – but I don’t
like Valentine’s Day. My Daughter is my greatest joy, and I have
many women friends - but I still don’t get the whole shopping for
shoes thing! Did I mention that I spent most my life in California?
I’m tolerant, open-minded and love cultural differences. I believe
in liberal education [actually education of any sort], I believe in
equality as a starting point – and meritocracy as the best social
model. I believe in personal responsibility – and giving a hand to
the less fortunate. I believe in Crash Davis and all the things he
believes in.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm an architect, and I design big buildings. I wanted to be an
architect when I was 10, and I don't consider it work. So, as far
as that goes I'm doing what I love best.
I'm trying to improve my golf game [probably a losing battle] but
the pusuit is still enjoyable.
I try to travel often, 'cause other cultures interest me and give
me better insight in our own culture.
And finally, I'm still trying to find the best cheeseburger in
Dallas.
I’m really good at
See above.
The first things people usually notice about me
Smart, funny and irreverent.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books on my bedside table right now are [non-fiction] physics,
construction, golf, travel, and cottages; and [fiction] mysteries,
sci-fi, and historical fiction. I like to read!
Movies: Favorites include Bull Durham; Last of the Mochicans;
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon; American Beauty. I like most Sci-fi,
Action flicks, I'll even do a romantic comedy [ie. When Harry Met
Sally].
Music: Rock [most 70's & 80's], guitar music [Govi, Ottmar
Liebert, etc...], classical, new age [Enya, Lorena McKinett, Chris
Spheris, etc...], and female vocalists [Joni Mitchell, Sarah
McLachlan, etc...].
Food: I may have mentioned cheesburgers.
The six things I could never do without
My daughter, dogs, cheeseburgers, good design [of every sort],
great adventure, and a life-partner to share them with.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My [our] place in the cosmos, better building design, and why can't
the City fix the potholes.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no such thing as typical. I can go to the ballet, party,
dinner w/ friends, quiet evening in front of the TV, art walk,
museums, hit golf balls at the range, browsing a bookstore, or
cheeseburger at the Angry Dog.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
My motto [yes I have a motto – but I am not a dork] is “embrace the
mystery.” Whatever you may read into that is probably true.
Myers-Briggs thinks I’m border line E&P and off the chart
N&T; and finally I’m seriously left-handed.
You should message me if
As Bruce Springsteen says, I’m looking for someone to “Cover Me.” I
want a partner with whom to share both the ups and downs of life. I
want an Annie Savoy to my Crash Davis. I need someone cursed with
self-awareness, a sense of humor about who she is, and the good
grace not to take any of it too seriously. All those things I like
to do are much more enjoyable when shared. Hell, a sprained ankle
is more fun with someone to lean on. I want to be both the leanee
and the leanor in a lifelong relationship – and I want a partner
who is also both. Other that that, all sizes & colors welcome.
Like all guys, I find beautiful eyes and thin ankles a plus.
