My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I hate these existential open ended "describe-yourself" things.

I'm a pretty lucky guy. Things don't always go my way, but I always find a way to pick things up and make the best of them. Life is too short to bitch and moan about what you don't have.

This has made me pretty laid back. I like to set goals and work towards them in some parts of my life, but overall, I like to take things as they come.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Life takes you on a lot of funny twists and turns. I went to school to be a music teacher. When there were no teaching jobs, I became a baker and a catering chef instead. That's kind of the story of my life. Unexpected things happen, and I find a way to make it work.

Getting out of teaching has opened up the way for me to actually pursue a bit of a singing career. No, not like the American Idol kind. I was trained as a classical singer, and what I truly love is choral singing. I sing with Albany Pro Musica, I sub for the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, and I've been taking little side gigs here and there while I work on putting out my demo CD.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
problem solving. I love finding issues, great or small that need creative solutions. I'm also a pretty fair singer.
The first things people usually notice about me

Books: My Name is Asher Lev (Potok), The Phantom Toolbooth (Juster), Invisible Monsters (Palahniuk), His Dark Materials (Pullman), A Song of Fire and Ice (Martin), Dune (Herbert), Foundation (Asimov), Ender's Game (Card), really I'll give anything sci-fi fantasy a go.

Movies: The Shawshank Redemption, The Usual Suspects, Memphis Belle, The Hunt for Red October, Star Wars IV-VI, LoTR, Bourne Trilogy, Taken, The Blind Side, Kundun, The King's Speech

Shows: The West Wing, Modern Family, The Office, House, NCIS, Daily Show, Colbert Report

Music: This is just a sampling of bands I would probably jump to when I start listening. Where it goes from there is anyones guess:

The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Queen, Chicago, Boston, Parliment, George Clinton, Jurassic 5, Tribe Called Quest, Phish, Dave Matthews (pre-2005), Red Hot Chili Peppers, O.A.R., Dispatch, Sublime, Big D and the Kids Table, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, David Grisman, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Little Feet
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) My family.
2) My friends.
3) My cat.
4) My external HD (holds all my music).
5) My Kindle Fire.
6) My voice.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
my future, how to affect change.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I try not to have "typical" Friday nights. They'd get boring way too quickly.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have a cyst on my tailbone that has been genetically passed down from my father, and his father before that. Completely benign and typically not even visible, but it's there.
