My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm Jacob! Isn't that exciting? Well, perhaps not, or perhaps so. I am a long winded, Ohio-born yet currently living in Louisiana Graduate Student at LSU.

Some people have described me as laid back, a description I actually disagree with. Truth be told, I'm actually a really excitable person. I always find the best way to go about life is to endeavor to enjoy the things to like/care about to the greatest degree that you can. However, at the same time I do feel the need to never feign concern over things that I really don't care about. It could be said tlhat my motto in life is: Take life seriously, but don't take it seriously. Seems like an oxymoron doesn't it? I guess what I really mean by this axiom is that there are important things in life that need our attention and our concern, however, that doesn't mean that one can't enjoy life.

Having a set of beliefs very important to me. By that I don't mean religion, in fact, that is the exact opposite of what I mean. Seek out some knowledge, form some opinions, and think about what's going on in the world. As for the things I believe in, I'm liberal, I'm secular, and overall I believe that human beings shouldn't be dominated by other human beings. (That is NOT a Libertarian argument, those fools seem to think that the state is the only thing that can dominate a person, where it is actually a solution to the rich dominating the poor.)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Currently, I'm obtaining my PhD in Political Science at LSU. I'm specializing in judicial politics. Ultimately, my main goal in life is to be the best teacher I can be and through the college education system create a ton of lawyers that will fight for social justice.

Music is probably the biggest thing I'm into. Overall, my main rubric when looking at whether I like or dislike music is whether or not I appreciate the craft of writing behind it. It doesn't have to necessarily be complex, but if there's something I find musically interesting going on, I'm going to at least give it a chance. Genre-wise, my favorite type of music is post punk. My favorite bands of all time, in no order are: Joy Division, The Pixies, Rush, The Smiths, The Clash, The Chameleons, The Smiths, XTC, and Bruce Springsteen.

Some of my favorite movies are: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Love and Death, The Empire Strikes Back, Mallrats, Citizen Kane, etc.

Some of my favorite TV shows: 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Doctor Who, Sports Night, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, etc.

Some of my favorite books: Hamlet, Macbeth, Trainspotting, Dune, Batman comics, Harry Potter, etc.

When I was 17 years old I tore my ACL in a warm up basketball game. I tore it by trying to dunk and came down stiff legged, the only reason I even tried to dunk was to impress this girl in the stands.
