I am smart, funny, and sensual.

My Self-Summary

I'm a quirky combination of goofiness and intellect. Love to laugh; have to have a partner with a good sense of humor. I'm a part-time folk singer and enjoy spending time with my musician friends, eating, socializing and making music for each other. I occasionally even get paying gigs, including a half-hour gig singing before a wedding ceremony where the bride's limo got lost and my partner and I sang every song either of us knew for 2 hours until she showed up (in hysterics) and the ceremony could go on. Never knew there were so many songs about cheating, death, sorrow and loneliness in my repertoire until we had to avoid them!

I've had an interesting life that included working and living in Asia for a few years and getting to travel and spend time in other cultures, an experience that continues to shape my life and politics in various ways.

Grew up in a amateur theatrical family and spent years doing musical and straight theatre until I started doing folk music and jazz.
Really enjoy museums; consider yourself warned that if an exhibit really grabs me I will read every label. (Feel free to browse the gift shop until I resurface.) Can walk endlessly in NYC.
Haven't had the wherewithal to travel much in the last few years, but when I do my taste runs much more to pensions/B&Bs where I can hang out with local people, rather than a hotel with a mint on my pillow.
Love to read (almost anything). Watch too much TV. Love animals; I'm the one who stops my car to move a turtle out of the road, or hand-feed a nest of orphaned baby birds.
Spiritually, I have attended Quaker Meeting for about 15 years. The testimonies of peace, compassion, loving kindness and simplicity challenge me every day to be a better person.

I'm the single mom of a 16-year-old daughter who actually still likes me, excels in school and the arts, reads classic literature for fun, and generally defies all stereotypes of the modern American teenager except for the one involving being able to text at lightning speed even in her sleep.

What I’m doing with my life

After 6 years in real estate, currently trying to decide on a new career path. I love real estate, which I've always viewed as more of a matchmaking endeavor than a sales job, but as a single mom I need a more reliable source of income.

Before real estate I spent a decade in project management; before that, a bilingual office manager for a Japanese company; before that, a teacher of ESL in Japan. So I guess this will be my fourth or fifth career, not including a part-time job as a professional proofreader of legal documents and transcripts that I've had for about 12 years. As part of that job, I've learned about everything from the natural history of the Meadowlands to how time-release drugs work to how scientists come up with an idea for a new drug to test, and why 7 World Trade Center was destroyed on 9/11 (Hint: it's not a good idea to put a tank containing thousands of gallons of flammable diesel fuel in the mezzanine lobby of an office building. No urban legend here, sworn testimony from one of the few top brass of the NYFD who survived the day.)

When not sending in resumes and going on interviews, I'm reconnecting with old friends via Facebook and exploring on-line gaming, which I find both fascinating and bemusing.

I’m really good at

Singing, parenting, making love, making others laugh, finding a new and better way to do an old job (if you want something done more efficiently, ask the lazy person!)

The first things people usually notice about me

My energy, humor and smile. I'm told when I walk in a room, it's impossible to ignore me, which is either great or supremely annoying, I suppose.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Absolutely everything from 19th century literature, history, biography, science to true crime.
Movies: Nothing that involves things leaping out of closets, from under beds, out of the depth of Hell or bursting out of various unfortunate characters' orifices. Other than that, I love it all, especially old movies from the '30s, '40s and '50s, or movie musicals. Hey kids, let's put on a show!
Music: I listen to absolutely anything except hip-hop or rap. I sing jazz, folk, swing and rock.
Food: I will eat anything that does not try to bite my face. Except liver, which is not a food, despite how yummy your Bubbi or mommy made it taste. *shudder*

The six things I could never do without

My daughter
Good lovin'
yummy food
Books
Music, for listening and performing
Animals

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What I'm going to do when I grow up.

On a typical Friday night I am

Watching a concert at the coffehouse I used to help run, spending time with friends online, in my human form or as a hobbit in Lord of the Rings Online (which might also qualify as the most private thing I'm willing to admit here).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

That I don't think it's really good sex unless at some point, you're both laughing.

You should message me if

You're still reading after all this blather!
