I am funny, quirky, and geeky.

My Self-Summary

I enjoy my Chinese / Japanese calligraphy class more than just about anything else in my week. :) I've studied Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, but I'm not really good in any of them, apart from my native tongue, English. Despite the seeming affinity for only Far East Asian culture, I'm a fan of many cultures and wish to learn much about them and about other languages, too; to that end, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Religion & Culture (like 'world-view analysis', not like 'theology') and I currently plan to do a Ph. D. related to Chinese Buddhism in North America. I'm interested in learning from around the world including, but mot limited to, folk tales, art, and music. Beyond that, I'm a big math geek who really appreciates good math jokes (like the one about the mathematician who named his dog 'Cauchy').

As one may tell simply by reading my profile, I'm also very wordy when I write.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm working as a core UI framework software developer at Research In Motion while simultaneously pursuing a Master's degree in Religion & Culture. I currently plan to do a Master's throughout the next (academic) year, then a Ph. D..

I'd like to save the world; the biggest source of the world's problems, in my opinion, is a lack of understanding. For me to be able to help others to understand each other, I am trying to learn what cultural baggage we have in various cultures hinders our understanding of others. One way to get a comprehensive look at cultures is to look at the religions practised therein.

When I get a chance, I like volunteering for cultural and charitable events. I try to make time for them because I firmly believe that work and school aren't everything.

I’m really good at

Procrastinating. Being a jack of many trades and a master of only one. I like to chill-out and read, although my opportunities for pleasure-reading are few and far-between.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm a guy who often wears shorts during the winter. I can be intense but I'm generally jolly in the personality sense, too. :) Oh, and my jokes are often so corny, I should be called 'The Colonel'.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

'The Best Democracy Money Can Buy'
'Armed Madhouse'
'Gut Feelings'
'Office Space'
'Monty Python And The Holy Grail'

I like foods from all around the world. I'm not too keen on insects or arachnids, though.

The six things I could never do without

Air, food, the law of cause and effect, the great amount of absurdity in my life, the humour which goes along with it, and common sense.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Nothing. Everything. Monkey minds. The drama in my life.

On a typical Friday night I am

thinking 'why do my Friday nights vary so much?'. Lately I usually try to wind-down on a Friday evening.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I used to be a vegetarian. I'd like to be one again.

You should message me if

you think that I'm not too much of a dreamer, from what you've read here.
