My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I moved to LA in 1998 for grad school and can't believe how the time has flown. (I guess it's the one sunny day after the other.)

I grew up in Texas, went to college in Virginia (with a year in Paris) and then lived in New York. I love LA for all it has to offer culturally--concerts, art galleries, museums, food, interesting and creative people, so it really feels like home now. I go hiking frequently, love to snowboard in Big Bear, Mammoth or Tahoe, go to concerts often, the beach, etc. I'm an avid traveler and try to go out of the country at least once a year, even if it means traveling by myself.

I love to cook and am an avid amateur photographer but need to take a course or find someone who can teach me how to really use my SLR. I'm a sponge for information and seem to spend all day reading. I'm fascinated by technology and its impact on media and culture.

I prefer one-on-one conversations but also like to be out and see what's going on.

I've been busy over the last months renovating my 1924 Craftsman house in the Silver Lake area and gardening.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work in media research primarily doing product development. I've spent a lot of time in New York and San Francisco over the past several years for work and love visiting both of those cities but am an unabashed LA booster.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm an amateur chef, though with no real credentials. If I were into hard labor, I might own a restaurant. Instead, I love cooking for my family and friends. Two of my favorite gifts this Christmas were the Ad Hoc at Home and Momofuku cookbooks. I try to take cooking classes whenever I travel. I'm not much on washing dishes however.

I love gardening and doing projects around my house.

Music: I'm pretty passionate about music and am never far from one of my iPods or stereo. Among my favorites artists--The Smiths, Pixies, David Bowie, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Serge Gainsbourg, Goldfrapp, Band of Horses, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Wilco, Ladytron, Beirut, Radiohead, Blonde Redhead, PJ Harvey, Elliott Smith, The Dears, Portishead, Arcade Fire, Massive Attack, Fleet Foxes, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cars, Bjork, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Talking Heads, Fever Ray, Broken Bells, Belle and Sebastian... I tend to listen to KCRW all day while working though still yell at the stereo when they play stuff I don't like. I love going to Coachella--even went to the very first one.

Reading: I tend to read more non-fiction though interspersed with fiction. Just finished Everything Bad is Good for You. In the last few months--Freedom, The Pursuit of the Millenium, The Discovery of France, The Evolution of God... I like to read about philosophy, human behavior, politics. Really loving my iPad Kindle. Some all time favorites: The Velvet Rage, Love in the Time of Cholera, Madame Bovary, AHWOSG, Middlesex, On Human Behavior, The Corrections. I read the New Yorker, the LA Times, NY Times, Towleroad, Scientific American Mind, New York Magazine...

Food: I love to cook. I'm a fan of farmers markets and Asian grocery stores. I love having dinner parties though much more often end up getting an idea in my head that I make and then end up with a lot of extra food for myself. Also love checking out interesting new restaurants around LA, whether on the low or high end. I try to keep up with what's new around town. I love eating out in San Francisco and New York too, or wherever else I travel. Let's just say I'm going to show up with an opinion, but am more than happy to hear your ideas too.

TV: Recent favorites include VEEP, Downton Abbey, Girls, Game of Thrones, New Girl, Project Runway, RHOBH, 30 Rock, Rachel Maddow and Frontline.

Movies: All time favorites include Big Lebowski, Amelie, The Third Man, Fargo. I have a long list on Netflix that I'm constantly adding to. Watched Inglourious Basterds again this past weekend (but have to cover my eyes during the really gruesome parts).

Other stuff: I just got my PADI certification last year and would love to go diving again at any moment. I love snowboarding and am waiting for some snow at Mammoth so I can head up there.
