I am laid-back, sarcastic, and up for happy hour.

My Self-Summary

I think I'm pretty easy going in general. I'm happy that I've been in Philly long enough that I'm known by name at some of the places I go to regularly, but not so long that I can't go somewhere where no one knows me.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm attempting to finish up my PhD in bioengineering. It's taken longer than I had anticipated, but it's not such a bad thing to be doing.

I’m really good at

cooking, since it's something I've been working at for the past few years. Once I decide that I want to make something, I tend to experiment and make it over and over while changing it a little to see if I can make it better. I guess that's a side effect of having been in science for so long. I recently bought a small deep fryer to help with this since I often look at various food items and ask myself, "What that would taste like if I wrapped it in bacon and/or deep fried it?" Turns out the the answer is "fucking awesome."

The first things people usually notice about me

That I look like, or least remind them of, someone they know

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: Los Campesinos!, Weezer, Social Distortion, Billy Talent, Rise Against, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellies, Hot Hot Heat, Honorary Title, Ok Go, Pixies, Rancid, The White Stripes, The Killers, The Raconteurs, We Are Scientists, and plenty of others that I am currently forgetting

Movies: Fight Club, Office Space, The Big Lebowski, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Spaceballs, The Usual Suspects, Boondock Saints, American Psycho, Rounders, Star Wars

Authors: Chuck Palahniuk, Douglas Coupland, Chuck Klosterman, Kurt Vonnegut, Ernest Hemmingway, Neal Stephenson, Douglas Adams, Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs, William Vollman, Neil Gaiman, Augusten Burroughs, William Gibson, Bret Easton Ellis.

Food: All of it. Except birthday cake, which I've never liked.

The six things I could never do without

my group of friends
1/2 price can night
iPod
my fat black cat Timmy (pronounced ala South Park)
good drinks (microbrews, bourbon, spicy bloody marys, etc)
a sharp chef's knife

I spend a lot of time thinking about

brains, but not in a zombie-like way, more of a "that's what I study all day" way.

On a typical Friday night I am

meeting up with friends at a local bar so we can decompress from the week, engage in pointless but good-natured barguements and spend too much on the jukebox.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have strong nerd tendencies. I actually met the guy who plays C-3P0 because I was at a restaurant with my friends having a detailed conversation about Star Wars (I know, right?) and he overheard us and enjoyed our conversation enough to come over and introduce himself to us... and yes we made him do the voice.

You should message me if

you like exploring Philly in search of good drinks, good food, and of course good times. And also, you don't give up on a night just because the weather is less than ideal.
