I am funk-phenomenal, freq-nasty, and magically delicious.
My Self-Summary
I grew up on the East Coast, right by the beach. Someday, I hope to
settle down near the ocean. I'm a father of two wonderful boys, and
a divorcee (is that relevant)? I get along well with kids; I
suspect, this is because I'm a big one of them. I've two
enlistments in the U.S. Army, as soldier medic/lab tech. This makes
no sense, really, since I’m essentially a techno-hippie to the
bone. I heart Mama Earth. She inspires me to live lovingly; to take
only what I need and to give as much as I able. Papa Sky captivates
my imagination and stargazing humbles me to a state of
reasonableness. On occasion, I secretly try contacting the
mothership by making
crop circles in nearby fields. I
believe technology is an extension of nature, and so, I love my
computer too. I
also believe in a robust national defense. I told you, it makes no
sense. I love playing with
electronic music and
mixing
tribal rhythms.
Dancing and
drum circles are always good
medicine. Contradictions, enigmas, strange & absurd thinks
excite me.
Museums,
libraries,
2nd hand book stores, &
vinyl
record stores are sacred spaces of refuge for me. Underdogs are
often my heroes. I develop hives and burning rashes to most
fundamentalities: fear based dogmas, religious zealots,
middle-class socialist mediocrity and bullies, just to name a few.
Friendship is
precious to me. Honesty, a flexible mind, and a good pair of boots
are vitally important as well. I've little interest in flings.
Alas, with less than a year of recovery, chances are slim anyhow.
What I’m doing with my life
working for a power greater than Jeff...slowly rising, like a wee
baby phoenix, shaking the dust from my wings, the sleep out of my
eyes & waking up to a new dawn of the living...on the best
days, remembering who I truly am...on the less than best, the same,
only slower.
I’m really good at
hmmmming, let's see...hugging, phlebotomy, taking tests (guessing),
making other people sound great when I sing Karaoke. Rice,
definitely good at making sticky rice, and green tea...oh, table
tennis, mixing records...I make a mean Spanikopita (sp?) dish.
The first things people usually notice about me
Not a clue. Usually, people don't notice me, unless I open my big
mouth...then, it's a knuckle crackin', scowlin' good time for all.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Recent BOOKS: Stephen Kings Dark Tower series, a collection of
early short stories by Philip K. Dick, tons of books on recovery,
spirituality and codependency (i.e. A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle,
all 3 Conversations with God by Neal Donald Walsch, Psychadelic
Experience by Timothy Leary, The Holy Man by Susan Trott, Playing
It by Heart by Melody Beattie, Zen Mind, Beginners Mind by Suzuki
Shunryu, etc.)
some favorite AUTHORS: Philip K. Dick, Dan Simmons, Theodore
Sturgeon, Ursula K. LeGuin, Ayn Rand, Jack Kerouac, Alan Watts, Ram
Dass, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Camille Paglia, Anne Rice,
Kurt Vonnegut, Hunter S. Thompson, Noam Chomsky, W.S. Burroughs
....blah, there are more...
MUSIC: I’m no snob, I’ll listen to most anything, just depends...
Everybody has an ipod these days. When I hear something I like,
it's appropriated. Otherwise, I listen to public radio, college
radio or stream electronic music.
Movies: Fight Club, Chasing Amy, Team America, Blade Runner, Five
Fingers of Death, Dodgeball, The Cook the Thief the Wife and her
Lover, Hidden Crotch Dragon Ass..oh wait, Hidden Tiger Croutching
Dragon, Tank Girl, A Beautiful Mind, 300 (yes, It's true), Kundun,
Cousins, just to name a few.
FOOD: Greek (Mediterranean), Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian &
Mexican, Ice Cream, in that order. But, I’m a cheap date, perfectly
happy eating peanut butter & pretzels by a campfire.
The six things I could never do without
self acceptance, sense of humor, faith, love, my lil big book,
pen&paper
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What’s really goin’ on? (lol!) Gratitude for sobriety/recovery and
consciousness of my Creator’s infinite, incomprehensible love,
wisdom & sense of humor. My kids. Traveling with them someday,
cross country, or maybe to Machu Picchu. What would Buddha do?
Imagining my ecofriendly, sustainable energy, geodesic dome future
house while pondering the reality of my subgenius, minimalistic
(i.e. slacker) existence. What would it be like to live under the
sea or jet ski on the moon? Walt Disney is an alien. My ADHD is a
superpower. Why there's brail on the drive thru ATM machines? DNA
is a virus from outter space. Exactly, how many licks does it
take...
It's usually best I think as little as possible, but I just can't
stop the freakshow parading through my mind; so when I'm not
required to think, I meditate: stay focused on breathing, listening
or helping others, or whatever it is I'm doing (karmic yoga style)
and enjoy the show.
On a typical Friday night I am
reading, writing, stargazing, getting lost, hangin' out by the
river with friends or by the bonfire, surfin' the internet,
exploring a new and different hobby...is today Friday? I just made
my own didgeridoo; and, a hank-drum too. Maybe I'll go play it.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
i don't know...
You should message me if
if you're a match, if you can relate, if you're curious or bored,
need help with a crossword. I'm usually game for a round of
raquetball or
table tennis,
even paintball. Oh, by the way, if you have a problem with drugs or
alcohol, Id be happy to talk with you about a SOLUTION.
