I used to be a disillusioned, underachieving philosophy major and dropped out when I realized that I was a little too honest for an academic career.

I haven't figured out exactly what to do since then. So I worked in used bookstores, did voiceovers and radio, performed stand-up, written comedy, sold shit online, took other random jobs, played professional poker, etc.

I'm from the Boston area, and have lived in Madison and Las Vegas.

I don't like to spend a lot of time working, but that's because I value my time more than money. I'm pretty generous with what I have, but the fact is that I'm probably not going to be able to buy you that 60" flat-screen.

With all that free time, I read whatever is front of me, write when it occurs to me, see way too many movies, drive to different places, walk around, talk to people and look at things. What the hell else is there to do?

Nothing. But decent at everything. I call it being a "generalist" which makes it sound like something I'm cultivating rather than a personal failing.

Nothing, if I can help it. And then I shiv them and steal their wallets.

I have been a reader since a very young age. I haven't read much fiction since I was 25. Realistically, there are only about eight stories; the rest is just details. So I primarily read non-fiction, weighted a bit too heavily toward philosophy and intellectual history, which is probably motivated by nostalgia. I also read poetry, unless it was written in the past 100 years. Byron and Browning are my favorites.

I unintentionally see a lot of movies. Usually I'll go to a matinee here and there, which is reasonable, and then stay for two or three more, which is not. I'm mainly watch arthouse fare, with the occasional lapse into Hollywood schlock just to keep it real.

Do I really have to list an ass-load of bands here? I listen to everything. Except Kanye. He's on my shit list.

I am a full-on unabashed omnivore and I guess a bit of a "foodie", which is a really awful word and I'm embarrassed to use it.
