I'm a bit shy, a bit of a philosophy nerd and a bit of a closet radical. Not THAT closet, I've been out for years. I'm in a long-term relationship, but am very open to making new connections. I'm very new to okcupid, and I'm a bit confused by the questions. And how some people are 20% "enemies" already. We haven't even talked about politics or religion or any of the traditional enemy-forming subjects.

Bottom-line: It takes me a while to warm up to people, but when I do I'm a warm, emotionally available, stable person. I'm a student of philosophy, art and religion, ideas and opinions matter to me, and one of my favorite activities is talking about philosophy or art with other thoughtful people. I enjoy people who are creative and funny, but I also enjoy people who have some depth. I understand that it takes time to get to know people, and I enjoy the process. I'm pretty well balanced, and a bit allergic to certain kinds of drama - interpersonal, chief among them.

I'm trying to know myself, be of service to others, and appreciate the richness and fun of the world to the greatest degree possible. My career in higher education is part of that right now, although I don't feel wedded to that line of work as the main way I'll live my values and enjoy my life. I'm the last surrealist. I'm an administrator, and I also teach: western philosophy, western and eastern religion, ethics and feminism / GLBT studies.

Movies: Many. A few favs: Shortbus, Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Naked Lunch, My Own Private Idaho, Marat/Sade, Amarcord, Brand on the Brain!, Angels in America, The Dreamers, Le Samourai, Northfork, The Sheltering Sky.

These days reading & writing or grading papers. Preferred activities include hanging out with friends, going to movies, going out dancing occasionally, camping. I love making art or appreciating it. Although it isn't a Friday night activity, I also enjoy watching football or baseball.
