Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a true people person; there isn't much I can do alone that
isn't more fun with company. I love to meet new people and get to
know them...or not meet people and just watch them ( who doesn't
like some good people watching?) Having lived in the same town my
whole life, many of my friends are people I met in elementary
school, so we have quite a close knit group.
For the last year I have had a job through AmeriCorps doing
capacity building for a non-profit who does GED assistance and
vocational construction training for 18-24 year old young adults in
Detroit. Even though I was only supposed to be working in
administration, I made a point to make sure I got to spend at least
a few hours a week working on academics with the students and found
that forming personal relationships with them was by far the most
rewarding part of the job.
In my free time I am usually training in Judo and Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu, or kickin' it with my friends. I would love to teach Judo or
BJJ some day down the road, but don't yet feel anywhere close to
qualified. I guess I should also add that I don't do martial arts
to "fight" people, I do it for personal fulfillment. I have never
been in a fight!
I get along with almost everyone. My friends use me as a test when
someone got a new girlfriend. If they can't get along with me, then
they must have a generally disagreeable demeanor. With that said, I
typically prefer liberal, open minded, intelligent people who are
interested in learning new things, and generally kvetching about
that state of current world affairs. While it has taken me way to
long to realize it, I'm also someone who excels with a set routine,
although often struggle to set one.
I have been labeled many things, ranging from jock to nerd however
never felt like either label fit me well. Fortunately for me, it
means I have been able to gather an eclectic group of friends as a
It was also recently brought to my attention that my profile
contained several spelling errors, and I feel like I owe the
community an apology. I am deeply sorry. I have wronged you, and
likely done irreparable damage to upon myself and my profile and
come to you on bent knee, beseeching forgiveness.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I touched on this above, but I pretty much spend my time in three
ways: working, doing judo, and hanging out with friends. In the
future I plan on going back to school for a masters in public
policy, but since school teaches you a lot about school and
relatively little about real life I am planning on spending a few
years working to make sure I am not wasting my time and money with
more school too early.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
-Judo/ Jiu Jitsu
-Procrastination (although I'm making a concerted effort to change
-Giving advice that I don't follow myself
-Making cats long for my attention (I've been called the cat
whisperer. No feline can resist my charm!)
In general, I feel as though I excel at interpersonal interaction.

I've never really asked someone that. Maybe my chipper demeanor? Or
perhaps my over sized nose. The beard? I think its the beard,
although the state of my facial hair is constantly in flux. What
fun is being able to grow a beard if you don't change it up from
time to time?

My favorite book is a difficult one. Depending on the day you ask
me, it ranges from The Hobbit, to Max Weber's writings on
bureaucracy. I am also a big fan of Earnest Hemingway's short
stories, and The Grapes of Wrath amongst other things. I cried the
first time I read Of Mice and Men, and have a soft spot for The
Wizard of Earth Sea trilogy, and Claude Brown's Man Child in the
Promised land. I also really enjoyed Gang Leader for a day.
Currently I'm reading King Leopold's Ghost.
In terms of music, I am pretty open. I have a fondness for ska and
old school rap, and most things 80s and 90s along with smatterings
of "indie shit" for lack of a better term; as long as it isn't dub
step or electronica and there isn't any screaming i'm good.
In terms of my favorite shows, in no particular order:
South Park, Breaking Bad, Trailer Park Boys, Cops, Workaholics,
Gilligan's Island, Scooby Doo, Arrested Development... to be honest
I wasn't aloud to watch much T.V growing up, and i don't currently
have cable so these days my intake it quite limited.
I am not a picky eater. I eat to live, not live to eat, although
that isn't to say that I can't appreciate a good meal. But man,
eating can be so damn inconvenient! These days I have been
surviving mainly on a diet of fruit, salad, Mexican, and Blimpy
Burger (Nectar of the Gods). Since this was first written I have
begun to make dietary reforms! Blimpy Buger closing has been a
traumatic experience for me, and I feel kind of lost without it.
However, it have also made eating better much easier, since I no
longer can indulge my constant Blimpy cravings. So, it was time to
give veggies more lovin', and seriously cut down on my red meat
consumption. We'll see how it goes, but so far I am feeling great!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

Judo/ Jiu Jitsu
The internet (duh!)

Nature (I couldn't live in a concrete jungle)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Judo/ Jiu Jitsu, social issues (especially felony
disenfranchisement laws, and how to address recidivism), monetary
policy, current events, sociology, and cats, especially really
really fat ones.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Chillin with friends. Trying to find things to do. Doing things
that I've found to do.
