My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Thanks for dropping by my little corner of the internet. I promise to make up a better story about how we met someday.

I'm a serious fellow looking for another serious fellow to be serious with. I like to think I'm a hilarious / lighthearted / spontaneous sort of serious fellow, but as I get older I'm more and more comfortable with my inherent seriousness. I like being on time, and doing the things I say I will, and finishing what I start.

I'm very political and love a good argument. I'm well traveled but want to be better-traveled, and I love hiking and camping and other outdoorsy things. I watch entirely too much baseball but refuse to apologize for it.

In the last year I have really gotten my health under control. I lost a bunch of weight and have made regular exercise part of my life, and I love it. I couldn't run a mile at the beginning of 2013 and finished my first marathon this April - training to beat 4 hours in my second one this fall.

I grew up overseas, and moved all around the country for work for a lot of years, but I'm getting settled into life in DC now and I love it here. I travel for work and for fun, but love coming home.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for a small polling firm that works with Democrats and other assorted liberals. I do really nerdy things and I love it. I'd do it for free but I'm glad they don't make me. I worked directly for different corners of the party for the last 10 years, and now I have the freedom to be more in control of my life.

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my great group of friends, I'm active at my church, and I go on adventures. I also run a lot - want to come with?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm really good at data analysis, drinking wine outside in the sun, navigating airports, explaining the rules of baseball to foreigners, seeing the best in people, and folding maps.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Either my glasses or the fact that my hair is rapidly turning gray.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

My all-time favorite book is A Prayer for Owen Meany, but that's mostly nostalgia at this point. I read as much as I can - usually fiction but I'm trying to read more non-fiction. There are so many fields I don't know enough about. Can any of you recommend a good, non-threatening book about space? I also love the Economist, because its the closest thing to right-wing I can handle.

I don't watch a ton of tv (pretension alert) but I watch a lot of baseball and a lot of the Food Network. I don't know why I like watching people cook things I can't eat but I really do. I can't handle the "pretty white people with problems" genre of reality tv, but I'm open to pretty much anything else. I will also watch all of College Gameday without complaining.

Musically, I run the gamut from Sufjan Stevens to classical. If its nerdy white boy music, I probably like it.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My passport, good walking shoes, my library card, headphones, a fireplace, and a backyard.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time thinking about work, to be honest. I'm lucky that my job is also my hobby, but that means that I'm liable to spend most of my time timing about Democratic political data analysis, which is a little boring for everyone else. I'm working on that. The non-work parts of my thoughts are split between bourbon, good French food, the Ohio State Buckeyes , the meaning of life and the role of a well-meaning person in our modern world, and cute boys. Among many other things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Cooking for friends, or buying wine while someone else cooks, and sitting by the fire telling dumb jokes or swapping stories.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a morning person. Like, wake-up-when-the-sun-rises-even-on-weekends, go-to-bed-at-10-if-I-can-get-away-with-it morning person. I have a theory that people in my generation can be born-again, or Republican, or communists, or what-have-you and find a support group, but if you're a morning person God help you. People think you're a dangerous freak.

I had an ex, who's still a good friend, tell me when we were breaking up that I had my shit too together and that it freaked him out sometimes. If that strikes you as a feature, not a bug, send me a message.
