My self-summary
I love to laugh, I enjoy making others laugh and have been described as witty. I struggle with whether I think sarcasm is a virtue or a vice...but I do it well. I tease gently when I care.

Movies, music and theatre are right up there with books. I love staying in to watch a good TV show or movie, or going out with friends and/or family to check out a new release or show.

I have a passion for serving others and enjoy seeing someone smile as a result, even if they don't know it was me. That passion is borne out of a love for Jesus--I value that relationship and it is important that my future mate does too.

Friends and family are vital to me--I love that I get to work with my brother (his cubicle is right next to mine) and I cherish weekly card night (spades, hearts, canasta, etc) with some great friends.

During free time, if I'm not veggin' out with a book or catching up on TV, you're likely to find me doing something outside. Playing disc golf, cycling, hiking, camping or just enjoying fresh air are great!

Last year I discovered that running was actually delightful, and have completed 3 half marathons and have several more on the calendar. I tend to long 15-25 miles a week, and would love another running buddy.

I've got one kitty (Sophie) who does her best to keep me in line.

I'm a bit of a foodie, at least in spirit, and love cooking (though it's not as much fun to cook for one). I sometimes bake my own bread because its much more fun than buying it--and it lets me give my KitchenAid a workout. A lot of what I can do in the kitchen, I learned from Alton Brown.

I enjoy brewing beer. Not because I drink so much of it, nor to save money - but it's great to taste a good beer and be able to say, "I made this!"

I'm sure I've left plenty off, but hopefully this is a little better than a "I don't know what to say, so I won't!"
What I’m doing with my life
Right now, a lot of time goes into getting my new house set up, training for my next half marathon, learning to cook new things, and getting excited about being an uncle for real! I've got several friends whose kids know me as "uncle Jim," but it's just not the same...my brother and his wife are expecting any minute now...
I’m really good at
Being an uncle. Over-analyzing things. Producing live events. Playing music. Serving others. Being outdoors. Teaching new skills. Making bulleted lists that don't look like bulleted lists. Quoting movies and TV shows.
The first things people usually notice about me
My height. I'm 6'6", so it's hard to hide! And it's true what they say about tall guys; impossible to find clothes that fit right! (Why? What were you thinking?)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books (let's do authors):
JRR Tolkien, David Sedaris, George Saunders, Neil Gaiman, CS Lewis, others (I'm sure)

Movies:
Shawshank Redemption, Princess Bride, Three Amigos, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Return of the King, (500) Days of Summer, the hits keep rollin'. Also anything by QT, (Wes) Anderson, the Coens, Fincher, (most things by) Aranovsky, Apatow, really just...movies.

Shows:
Community, Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Fringe, Lost, Firefly, Bones (guilty pleasure), New Girl, Parks and Recreation, Homeland, Dexter, How I Met Your Mother, Arrested Development, House of Cards, Seinfeld, Friends, Family Guy

Music:
I listen to such a broad range....today on Pandora it's been a delightfully high percentage of things I like, so we'll just cover a few of those! Regina Spektor, Coldplay, Killers, U2, FrouFrou, She and Him, Mumford and Sons, Chris Tomlin, Ben Folds, Lumineers, The Oh Hellos, Ingrid Michaelsen,Civil Wars, Fun., Lily Allen, The Avett Brothers, The Civil Wars, Oh Hello's...

Food:
I just enjoy food. I've broken myself of my bad relationship with it, so I'm okay with just a taste of things now, when appropriate...ethnic foods in particular, I love Mexican, Indian, Thai.
The six things I could never do without
Faith (my Saviour)
friends/family
music (live, recorded, playing)
time outdoors
books
adventure
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Being outside instead of trapped at a desk. About what kind of tasty food I should make next. About how the heck we're 7 seasons in and STILL haven't met The Mother! I'm sure it will be legen-wait for it-dary.

Probably mostly about how I can be a better friend, brother, lover-of-Jesus, musician, adventurer, and about what God has for me next...and whether I'm paying close enough attention to be properly joining Him where he's at work around me now.
On a typical Friday night I am
Fixing dinner with friends and having good conversation or a board game; out to dinner and a movie; in bed early so Saturday morning can be an early long run with a good friend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I posted it here, it would cease being private! But I'm a fan of honesty and openness, so ask away; I'll surely admit to anything. Which is to say anything that is true of me or that I've done, I won't own up to someone else's stuff.
