I am intense, delightfully goofy, and ambitious.
My Self-Summary
I am a self-proclaimed East Coaster from the Midwest who is content
with her life, where she is, and where she is going. Granted, it
took a lot of learning, struggling, nights spent crying to my cat,
and rocking out to the great poets of music (Tom Petty, Jim Croce,
Beirut, The Flaming Lips, The Mountain Goats, and so on) to get to
that point, but hey - it's all about the journey. Plus, my cat's
self-esteem went way up.
I alternate between feeling like 24 is really young and really old,
but in general, just relish being a 20-something. Ups and downs,
ups and downs.
There are so many things going on in DC - free Shakespeare, random
musicians, new museum exhibits, the Green Festival - it would just
be nice to have someone to share them with... and be silly with, or
serious with, or excited with.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach preschool to children who are deaf. It rocks. I get to
pretend to be a dinosaur, giggle with children, and receive
mutliple hugs on a daily basis. I'm entering my last year of
graduate school as well.
Outside the professional part of my life, I do a lot of walking,
exploring new interests, yoga, "Heroes" watching, and reading. I
read voraciously.
I’m really good at
storytelling.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have very naturally light blonde hair. People most often ask if
its dyed. It is not. Stop asking me.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: "A Prayer For Owen Meany" by John Irving, "The Golden
Compass" by Philip Pullman, "Jesus Land" by Julia Scheeres, and
"Why I Built the Boogle House" by Helen Palmer
Movies: Across the Universe, That Thing You Do!, Forrest Gump,
Coraline, Little Miss Sunshine, Wristcutters
Music: (right now) Tom Petty, Beirut, Cat Stevens, The Beatles,
Cyndi Lauper, Okkervil River, Ben Folds, James Taylor, Joni
Mitchell
Food: SmartDogs ("not"dogs), soft pretzels with cheese, hummus,
Triscuits, Indian, pistachios, chocolate, and pizza. Pizza pizza
pizza.
The six things I could never do without
1. My cat
2. Singing in the shower
3. Children's books
4. Filtered water (DC tap water = learning disabilities in young
children. *In response to inquires: yes. there was a class action
lawsuit.)
5. My glasses/contacts (I would have many broken bones and no
driver's license without)
6. Being literate
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the future, the past, ideal scenarios, if the H1N1 virus is going
to cause as much havoc as the Department of Health thinks it
might...
On a typical Friday night I am
tired.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I will judge you when I first meet you. I will honestly, in my
head, judge you to the harshest degree possible. I'm not sure why
this is, but it happens. Fair warning.
You should message me if
you are emotionally together and have a job. Oh! Also, if you are
nice and not crazy. Also, you like cats. And you are funny (in a
respectable way). And read. And have good teeth.
