Smart yet silly, I love art, travel, reading, and exploring.

I moved to DC from Ogden, Utah (where my parents live) after teaching overseas and generally wandering around for several years. I work in advertising, as an editor.

I'm in a creative writing graduate program, which I absolutely love. I'm doing a lot of different types of literary journalism and personal essays. I also freelance and sometimes write for a beer magazine.

Finding my way around (I have a good sense of direction), asking questions, decorating, listening, penmanship.

I'm on the tall side and I get compared to Maggie Gyllenhaal on occasion.

I've also been told I have a very pretty speaking voice.

Books: The Lord of the Rings, etc., contemporary lit like The Poisonwood Bible, White Noise, and anything by Jumpha Lahiri, Japanese lit especially The Temple of the Golden Pavillion by Yukio Mishima, and most anything by George Eliot or Virginia Woolf.

Movies: The surreal (like Adaptation), the satirical (like Secretary), and stupid (like Anchorman).

TV Shows: Arrested Development, South Park, Mad Men, Always Sunny, Battlestar Galactica, and, for some lighter fare, The Wire.

Music: Sublime, The Clash, Fleet Foxes, Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Paul Simon, Velvet Underground, The Smiths, The Indigo Girls, Jolie Holland, Dar Williams.

Food: wasabi peas, pizza, broccoli, brownies. Craft beer.

Having spent my adolescence in Utah, people outside the state often assume I grew up in a polygamist household. I don't always correct them right away.
