Oh hey! Welcome to my profile. No, go ahead, keep your shoes on. Also, just so you know, this profile is BYOB. I know, it sucks. But do you know how much it costs to get a liquor license around here?
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Right now I'm back in school. (I was a real contributing member of society just a few months ago, and will be again soon!)

I've spent most of the last decade moving around. Since graduating college in upstate NY, I've lived in Austin, Boston, Portland (Maine), Medellin, London, Philadelphia, Manila, and now, Brooklyn. I swear this is true, even though I never really take pictures while I travel, so the documentary evidence is limited. I also am very proud to have friends who (almost) never insist on group pictures, or photographing their food.

But now I'm pretty driven and focused on being a journalist, which is my way of saying "I want to ask questions and learn new things for a living." I would have preferred to just study for bar trivia all day, but they don't pay you for that.

I try not to waste too much time. That being said, I often do waste time. Usually it’s by day drinking on my roof with friends while debating trivial nonsense or the big questions with equal intensity. Or it could be binge watching Friday Night Lights with some friend that I just can’t believe hasn’t seen it yet. What am I doing with my life? Trying to live like Coach Taylor. I have my Riggins moments, but generally speaking it’s more Landry.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making people laugh that I just met. I would say bar trivia, but I'm not good at that, I'm great at that. Winning people over who disagree with me. Turning boredom into excitement. Pity laughing at bad comedy open mics. Finding how to get on roofs. Getting lost on purpose and then finding somewhere new. Finding terrible dive bars that aren't cool in that hipster way, but are in fact terrible. Making CD mixes, which is a dying art. Getting lost down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. Finding pick up basketball games. Delivering and accepting genuine compliments. Operating without a plan.

Impressing grandmas.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes, if I'm being honest. They've been my most reliable source of compliments over the years.

John Steinbeck, David Foster Wallace, Junot Diaz, Kurt Vonnegut, Amy Hempel, Colum McCann, Jennifer Egan, Chuck Palahniuk, Joan Didion, Ray Carver, Michael Chabon, David Sedaris, Karen Russell, Ken Wilber, Chuck Klosterman, also, if anyone remembers them, the Redwall books.

Also, I think Bill Watterson is a once in a generation genius.

Anything by the Coen brothers, Wes Anderson, or P.T. Anderson, also I'll give anything with Will Ferrell or the Judd Apatow crew a shot. Princess Bride and, let's be honest, anything Pixar that isn't about vehicles that can talk.

The King of Kong might be the best movie ever.

Master of None, You're the Worst, Arrested Development, Mad Men, Louie, Veep, Breaking Bad, MST3K, The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Archer, Community. Also, I watch a lot of sports.

Okkervil River, The Hold Steady, Titus Andronicus, Jason Isbell, Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Dylan, The Dead, Houndmouth, Smokey Robinson, Springsteen, Van Morrison, Kanye, Drive By Truckers, Japandroids, Talking Heads, Neil Young

Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How can I be a better person? What's the difference between lobbying and bribery? How would I rebuild the Celtics? The Fermi paradox.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Convincing everyone to have another round. Watching a band that might not be great, but hey, its live. Hawkishly monitoring the list at the pool table from across the room. Introducing people I've just met to other people I've just met.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once met Alex Rodriguez and he was actually really nice and I wished him luck, and then I remembered he is the devil and I am a Red Sox fan and I just felt horribly, horribly dirty.
