My self-summary
Itinerant wanderer recently returned home to NY.
Adventurous cook.
Favorite uncle.
What I’m doing with my life
I've been on a Burma related non-profit binge for the last few years, first in Thailand, now in NYC.

*in Asia till July, so I may have a poor response time.

On the side I indulge in cynicism and developmental econ blogs. Also cooking for housemates and friends, and, on occasion, raging like a rock-star.
I’m really good at
Cooking lavish meals for friends at 3am, Balderdash, whistling, and Donald Duck impressions. Also, bringing the silly.
The first things people usually notice about me
After commenting on my red beard, they usually tell me I'm a good listener and ask me if I'm a woodsman. I'm not. But I'm always up for getting out of the city and sharing a meal under some trees.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies:
The Apartment, Manhattan, Awara, Jules and Jim, Down By Law, Black Narcissus, The Miracle of Morgan's Creek, How Green was My Valley, Ivan's Childhood, Wild Zero, Buckaroo Banzai, Prehysteria ( + sequels), Monsters Inc. (with my nieces), Magic Mike, and anything Michael Bay related.

TV:
I wish I could say Battlestar Galactica, but it's Mad Men, Louie, and Game of Thrones these days.

Books:
Mountains Beyond Mountains, Kafka on the Shore, D. Quixote, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Klay, The Bottom Billion, American Splendor, American Gods, Harry P. and His Adventures, The Hitchhiker's Guide, A Walk in the Woods, Development as Freedom, Poor Economics, and The Unbound Prometheus.

Music:
Sufjan Stevens, Yeezy, K'Naan, Nina Simone, Peter Wolf Crier, First Aid Kit, Frazey Ford, Explosions in the Sky, and Common Market. I can get down to one Miley Cyrus

Blogs (favorite procrastination hotspots):
Wronging Rights, Africa is Country, Chris Blattman, Marginal Revolution, and FilmDrunk.

Food:
The Dosa man on the south side of Washington Square Park.
The six things I could never do without
My nieces/nephew, great beer, Bryant Park film series, Kindle, breezy rooftops... Just five things. I'm fairly easy going.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Knock knock jokes, favorite West Wing episodes, and global poverty.
On a typical Friday night I am
Making soup in winter or ice cream in summer.

Or out ballin' (whatever that means...)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I don't find a wife in three months I will be cut off from my billionaire great aunt's inheritance, thereby forfeiting the tremendous wealth to which I have become accustomed.
