My Self-Summary

[Most of the profiles on here start with a sentence about how awful it is to fill out a summary of yourself. I enjoyed writing this. Is that bad?]

I'm Josh.

I'm a Junior Business major at the University of Arkansas...Kinda. It's complicated. I've got my own freelance computer repair gig. It's pretty sweet.

I enjoy wandering around stores right before they close, smelling every candle I can find (even the awful ones), trying in vain to learn photoshop, telling hilarious stories (poorly.) and singing the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" theme song. Oh yeah, I rock it.

My friends have told me that I'm one of the most relaxed, chill people they've ever met, but I don't get it. I guess one of my things is that I don't let the little things get me down. Poor driving is the sole exception to this rule.

I love studying different religious to try and figure out where they're coming from, but organized religion and I don't get along very well..

I love finding new things. My latest infatuation has been with The Beta Band, an english band that does really trippy folksy rock.

I've been on a weight loss kick for a while now, I decided January of last year that I didn't want to be a fatty anymore, and so far, it's worked. 75 pounds in a year is pretty good, eh? I was a megafatty. Now I'm not.

Politically, I'm a left-leaning Libertarian. I think that people should be free to do what they want, as long as they don't harm others.

I'm (quite) a bit on the nerdish side, a few days without internet and I start to go through withdrawals. Macs are awesome. I'm a goon.

I do some amateur photography, but nothing too serious.. I'm hoping to build up enough of a catalog of awesome shots to get myself somewhere with it, but at the moment it's just a dream. I run a website to host all of my pictures and other random junk. If you're nosy enough, you can find it pretty easily. If you can't find it, ask me, I'd love to share..

Please be aware that although I check my email compulsively, it usually takes me a little bit to reply to a message.. I'm a bit of a rambler, especially if I'm tired, so be prepared to get a LONG reply, even if it's just a short message. The one thing I do ask is that you give me something to work with.. "Hey, what's up?" can only get you so far.

As much as I try to hide it, I'm a pretty massive dork. I made an 'apt-get' joke earlier tonight.. If you know what that is, go outside and get some fresh air, seriously.

I love telling people stories, but they're usually best left for telling in person or on the phone, so don't get offended when I ask for your phone number or to meet for coffee or something. I'm not out to sex you or anything. Likewise, my outlook on this whole online dating thing is that if you're seriously looking for the love of your life in a handful of pictures and a few hundred words, you have much bigger problems than how many words you misspelled in your profile. I do friends, then see what happens. I'm not on here for booty calls or to stalk people, which sometimes seems like a rare thing.. Hey, at least it's better than PlentyOfFish.. (If you understood that one, you should probably go outside for a little bit too. Maybe you'll meet a Linux nerd while you're out there!)

My ideal match is someone I can spend hours (okay, an hour.) making funny faces with, someone who likes going out for a random (as in actually random. bring dice.) drive with on a warm afternoon, and is content with a Friday night being a few movies on the couch or the most ridiculous party you've ever been to, because I literally don't know what is being planned until I'm on my way there. Also, she must say please and thank you. Seriously.

Sometimes I wonder if it's a bad sign that I signed up for this website over three years ago.. I guess it helps that I did forget about it for a few years, then got back to it. I seriously did just sign up for the quizzes, I promise!

Self-summarized in 752 brilliant words.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now, school and work. They have pretty much sucked away my life. I don't mind though, I love my job (if you can call it that), and will be a thousand times happier with myself once I get school out of the way.

I'm in the process of moving back in with my parents.. Things ultimately came down to 'move back in and get school over with' or 'stay in the apartment and do student loans' and while option one is shitty for a couple of years, option two is shitty for like ten. Screw that.

I've also been trying to learn a few spanish lullabies, because our crazy germanic language just isn't as sweet sounding as spanish.

I’m really good at

I'm awesome at ignoring things that need to be done, and instead doing things that I have no business doing. I should be sleeping right now, but instead I'm working on this profile. Bedtime was five hours ago.

Also, fake mustaches. :)

The first things people usually notice about me

My smile. I'll smile at anything, especially if it smiles back. Babies, Cute girls, Dogs, everything. I'm always smiling, and I've been told that I'm one of those people that smiles with their entire face.

Beyond first impressions, one of my goals in life is to try my best to make everyone around me happy. If I can't make them happy, I at least try to get a laugh out of them. One of the terrible side effects of that is that I'm always telling awful jokes or attempting to tell a story.

I may not live a terribly eventful life, but I'm really good at finding the humor in things. Want to hear a story?

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
Kurt Vonnegut rocks my world. I'm starting to get into Chuck Palahniuk based on a few recommendations, but I'm not quite sold on him yet.
I love having a book handy filled with useless trivia, something I can just pick up and read in my spare time and stop reading anytime. Yes, I know it's the laziest way to read a book. At least it's classier than those Uncle John's Bathroom Reader calendar things. I wonder if the pages on those are flushable.

Movies:
The Professional, The Fifth Element, Taxi Driver, High Fidelity, Little Miss Sunshine, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Royal Tenenbaums, Revenge of the Nerds.. And dopey as it is, Forgetting Sarah Marshall was adorable.

Music: (This one's hard..)
The Eels, Ben Folds, Ben Folds Five, Grandaddy, Weezer, The Beta Band, The Pixies, The Breeders, Giant Drag, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Phish, Iron & Wine, Neko Case, The New Pornographers, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smog, Elliott Smith, Wilco

Food:
I love home-y food, homemade chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, any sort of casserole. As for places, Slim Chicken's, Marlo's Taco Shack and Thai Diner. Pumpkin or peanut butter and chocolate anything. If someone made a candle that smelled like that no-bake peanut butter and chocolate stuff in the box tastes, I would be in heaven.

What?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How things ended up exactly how they are. Thomas Newcomen invented a steam engine to pump water out of a mine, James Watt picked up on the idea and fixed it a little, then sold his machine to someone else needing to pump water out of a mine, then Edmund Cartwright thought to combine Watt's steam engine and John Kay's flying shuttle and bam shazam presto, industrial revolution. That's pretty cool if you ask me.
I'm a pretty big history nut, especially around the middle ages and the industrial revolution. James Watt is my hero, even if he was a jerk.

Other than that, I'm infatuated with how cool it is that my generation is the first to truly be connected to everything, worldwide. I can wake up, pick up my laptop, and talk to my friend on the other side of the world while still laying in bed in my underwear. That blows my mind.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually hanging out with my usual group of friends, chilling out at home and watching a movie or going to Dickson to grab a beer, play some pool, and shoot the shit. If all else fails, I go take pictures because I like to think I'm pretty good at it.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Name a Ben Folds song, and I'll sing it. Doesn't matter what, doesn't matter when, doesn't matter where.

If you're lucky, I'll dance to it too..

You should message me if

If my profile or pictures made you laugh. Or you made it all the way through, for that matter..

Or you're awesome, just like me.
