My self-summary
Most of my life is books and technology, with a fair bit of gaming on the side.

I'm a pretty recent transplant to the West Coast, but I moved a lot growing up, so I can't really say I'm "from" anywhere originally. Probably because of that, I love to travel, to see new places and do new things.

I'm not normally much of an outdoors type, but I do try to go skiing a few times every winter.

I can be kind of socially reclusive at times and I take a little while to warm up to people, but I can be pretty entertaining once I do.
What I’m doing with my life
Working, travelling, a lot of reading and a little bit of writing.
I’m really good at
Research, software, and board games. I don't cook very often, but I actually am pretty good at it and I make a fierce gumbo.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am often very, possibly needlessly, specific and precise in my speech. No idea where I picked up that speech pattern.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books and movies: I'm extremely fond of SF/F genre, dry comedy, and action movies that are either actually good or terrible enough to be hilarious (Street Fighter is a particularly good one with a few drinks). Not a fan of embarrassment or gross-out humor at all. My favorite shows and movies: Babylon 5, Dr. Strangelove, Super Troopers, Empire of the Sun, and Die Hard (best Christmas movie ever).

I used to watch a fair bit of anime but gradually fell away from it after graduating. There are a few series that I still love: Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, and Shoujo Kakumei Utena. I wouldn't describe myself as an anime fan any more though.

I read a lot of books, so listing the ones I loved would go on for a while. Favorite authors are Steven Erikson, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Jacqueline Carey, and Jim Butcher.

My music tastes vary widely; I'll listen to almost anything, though my favorite genres are probably classic rock, indie pop, and post-rock. Current top artists are Bruce Springsteen (entirely my mother's fault), Arcade Fire, Explosions in the Sky, VNV Nation, and the Fiery Furnaces.

I like spicy cuisines like Thai, Cajun, or Indian, but mostly I like any style of really good food, preferably with wine. I am also, and I freely admit this, a serious beer and liquor snob. I make no apologies for it.
The six things I could never do without
Internet access, a good book, old friends, snarky t-shirts, Irish whiskey, and Bruce Springsteen.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Technology and the future. I'm very much a science optimist and a believer in technical solutions and progress.

I self-analyze constantly. I think challenging my own beliefs is an extremely important part of evolving informed opinions, so I'm always looking at why I believe what I believe.

I'm also thinking about stories and plots a lot. There's always an interesting story about any situation. I don't write them down nearly as often as I should, but it's fun to daydream about.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either in for a quiet evening with a book, or gaming with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Nothing. Sorry, the stuff I'm private about is really personal. Just the way things are. Get to know me (or pour a pint of Bushmills in me) and ask again later.
