My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Like to think I'm a down to earth person, grateful for the things I have and happy to be a "worker among workers". College educated with a healthy dose of life experience....not afraid to step up to the plate and get my hands dirty. I also believe college isn't for everybody and I have met many talented and fascinating people who have travelled other roads. The less traveled roads are what appeals to me the most. I don't know who to attribute this quote to but I like it's philosophy. "One hundred years from now, it will not matter what your bank account was, the sort of house you lived in, or the kind of car you drove.....but the community may be different because you were important in a child's life." Investing in people is much more appealing than investing in the stock market.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
For many years now, I've worked as a therapeutic mentor with at-risk teenagers. The 60's philosophy of holding out your hand to those in need and foregoing a materialistic lifestyle have always struck me as the right thing to do, or maybe just the way that seems to work best for me.
Done some traveling, mostly to Mexico, but have lived most of my life in the Berkshires, own a big old house which is in good repair but a lot quieter since my kids aren't kids any more.
For maybe 10 years now I also work April-October as a landscape gardener for clients from here to Great Barrington. Love being outdoors, swinging a shovel, and creating gardens which make people happy. When I can bring my dog, Mabel, with me to a job, life doesn't get much better.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Swimming, making salads, grilling the perfect hamburger, and baking son's fave is rhubarb with a lattice crust. Still finding plenty of wonders in the world.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
That cute and friendly dog at my side, my cockapoo Mabel.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Some favorite foods....anything mexican, tabouille, hummas, fresh greens and tomatoes, salmon, shellfish, raw clams and oysters, corn on the cob. Music...rock, folk, jazz, bluegrass, Chopin, Mozart, Gregorian chants....tolerant of pretty much everything but syrupy country and heavy metal. As an English major from Vassar I'm ashamed to say that for about the last year (since I was given a NOOK) I'm hooked on Netflix. Have not watched tv for years so catching up on a lot of PBS, mystery, suspence w/o the commercials. Love Pandora too and watching performances on utube.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Sunshine, water, gardening tools, garlic, Balsamic vinegar and an honest mechanic. I've somehow managed to do without a good carpenter for some time but not by choice. Prescription sunglasses....can't leave home without them.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Thinking less and living more in the moment.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Puttering around the house thinking it would be a lot more fun being out on a date.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
More often than not, my knees are dirty.
