My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm gentle, kind, sarcastic, and have a wry sense of humour. I care deeply about people, and think that looking after each other is the only way to make life bearable.

A close & careful listener, I try to think about things before doing them (these days). But I'm still fun.

I'm a voracious consumer of music, and a mildly obsessive collector of shoes, jeans and records. Also, I make the best pizza in the northwest of England.

It'd be grand to meet someone to share some happy times with, and who makes me smile when I think about her. Actually, just someone to make tapes for (like we used to for girls we fancied) would be cool. Spotify playlists don't have quite the same air of romance.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Hanging out in bars & coffee houses, going to gigs, rioting. Cycling. Painting watercolours. Listening to records (vinyl for preference). Reading french philosophy, politics & fiction. Writing (poetry and fiction. None of it yet read by anyone else, let alone published).

I've recently started to teach myself how to make techno - I'm hoping at some point soon to progress beyond 'rubbish' to 'charmingly primitive'. I've also acquired a euphonium (or should that be an euphonium? I can't quite tell) and am attempting to learn that - in time, I hope to graduate to a sousaphone.

I've just started a monthly experimental music night at a pub in town - partly to give myself a reason to concentrate on making music, but also because I want to hear more interesting noises without having to get a train elsewhere. In the near future I've also got a Sunday afternoon record club planned for a different pub, where we listen to LPs and hang out (this is to give some purpose to the almost unmanagably large record collection I've acquired over the years)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
making pizza, dancing, necking. I used to do a radio show, and I reckon I'm pretty good at that. Still do an occasional podcast - see here: http://carbootsoul.podomatic.com/

A friend told me her first impression was that I was spiky and distant. I reckon everyone else just gets lost in my slate-grey eyes though. Actually, they aren't really slate-grey, I can't really work out what colour they are. Maybe you could tell me, when we meet.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Writers: Raymond Chandler, Hunter S Thompson, Noam Chomsky. Recently acquired a subscription to the London Review of Books.

Films: Rififi, Bande a Part, Magnolia, Coen brothers stuff. Soviet propaganda films. I've just started working my way through the films of Powell & Pressburger.

Shows: Don't really watch telly. I liked The Wire, The Thick of It and all the usual stuff.

Music: Everything really. but especially:

Techno (Underground Resistance, the usual Detroit lot, Surgeon & almost anything else from Birmingham, Vatican Shadow & the Blackest Ever Black stable),

Jazz & blues (especially from the 1920s/30s - Ella, Satchmo, Bix, Duke, Leadbelly, Bessie Smith, Blind Willie Mctell, all that shit - but also beebop, right up to the modern era)

Hardcore (all kinds - punk and rave - dischord stuff, anarcho, d-beat & crust. and then i love that period of hardcore rave from around 1993 when the producers just stuck anything into a tune if it sounded good. and it did sound good),

Punk & New wave (some of the 77 stuff for energy alone, but it gets more interesting when they started to experiment),

SCOTT WALKER.

Noise rock, post rock and whatnot. Disco. Reggae. 50s rock & roll & rockabilly. FUNK. Brass bands. Bluegrass. Hip Hop. Psychedelic rock music. krautrock. Ambient electronica. Afrobeat. Bollywood soundtracks from the 60s. Oh, and (for this week at least) this is the greatest song ever written: Mina Mazzani's Se Telefonando http://youtu.be/uKSuG1LOaYI

Oh, and Lou Reed. Have you heard this one? it's AMAZING http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkG9BKgDvNI

Food: Pizza, unusual cuts of meat cooked slow, cake (all kinds)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Nice coffee, loud music, high cocoa content chocolate, hats, sunshine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to live a richer life.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At home. But on other nights of the week I'm often at a gig, or enjoying the company of my peers in a pub, coffee shop or concert hall.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

It used to say I was 'easy-going' in my self summary, until I noticed it was the most common trait people claimed for themselves on OKC. Which suggests either a) we're somehow all massively easy going, or b) most of us are lying, either to ourselves or to anyone who reads our profile.

I am, however, easy-going.
