I am creatively inspired, adventurous, and i rarely say no.

My Self-Summary

i'm a recovering fraternity boy, artist, journalist, overcommitter and displaced Bostonian working on my mfa in documentary filmmaking.

i've lived in boston, dc, columbus ohio, and back to dc with a few quick stints in nyc and london.

i've traveled throughout europe for work and play and am starting to explore south america and beyond.

outside of this whole grad school thing i'm an artist and filmmaker working on some pretty awesome projects. lately my artistic inspiration has been coffee and early childhood memories manifested via stuffed animals. my latest filmic inspirations are brought to you by my olfactory sensors and a proclivity for the bizarre and absurd.

What I’m doing with my life

after leaving the world of full-time employment in newspaper photojournalism, i'm spending my days figuring out how to distill the storytelling power of the single still image into a feature-length documentary film.

so far, no real luck there, though i am making some cool and interesting films (if i say so myself)...

making art and communicating the aspects and virtues of my life as I see it.

riding the bizarre subculture bandwagon.

I’m really good at

photography, being an artist, journalism, soccer, traveling (i miss living in london), filmmaking, reading, writing, enjoying the curveball of life and being myself.

i'm a closet copyeditor, and relish in breaking the rules of style at every chance i get.

The first things people usually notice about me

not sure? what's the first thing you noticed about me?

people say i dress funny. i happen to like how i dress.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: anything with pictures (lots of art and photo books), dealing with journalism, the artistic practice or boston's irish mob connections.

still can't go wrong with the times of london and the sunday ny times. i like the way the newsprint and ink feels on my fingers, these online things aren't the same at all.

music: morning becomes eclectic. all songs considered. you name it, i'll listen to it, or at least give it a shot.

lately, a lot of jeff buckley, calexico, the decemberists, el guincho, thievery corporation, wilco and radiohead.

i'll eat almost anything, or at least try it. people tell me i'm a good cook too. i'm considering writing a book about surviving in the post-frat-house-kitchen-known-as-the-urban-studio-apatment situation i'm currently living.

i may or may not be addicted to coffee, though i have to be kind to my addictions since they've been the basis of the majority of my current work.

film: i'm the film student who doesn't watch films. sad, but true. currently watching robert frank's "me and my brother" as i write this, not sure how i feel about it. all in all, i'm a big fan of the documentaries.

The six things I could never do without

friends, family, music, contemporary art and culture, newspapers, my cameras, moleskine notebooks.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

pretty much everything. my brain doesn't know how to turn off.

the important ones: art, family, music, friends, travel, sports, memories, work, play, life, the death of print media, and everything in between.

On a typical Friday night I am

pick one, they're all equally likely:

• with my friends.
• staying up way too late making art. i'm much more productive as the day gets on for some reason...
• at the irish pub around the corner from my apartment.
• sitting at home watching films or clearing out the tivo.
• sleeping - it's a luxury all too rare.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i think I've read maybe half of the books sitting on my bookshelves.

i own more art than i have wall space to display it all.

i'm a closet perfectionist.

You should message me if

you want to help in my quests of playing tennis again and learning portuguese.

or really if you just want to say hi.
