My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I've traveled here by a different path, sometimes by choice and sometimes due to circumstaces beyond my control. It wasn't what I expected but I think it may have made both stronger and more flexible.

I am kind, sensitive, strong, loyal, honest, adventurous, passionate, stable and (usually) responsible. I have a sense of humor with regard to life and myself.
I love to laugh and enjoy connecting with people, traveling near and far, exploring the mountains and deserts, making photographs,

I seek and embrace new experiences. I am the kind of person who has a tendency to be doing something but I value time to slow down and watch the world go by.

I am committed to living joyfully, fearlessly.and compassionately.

I believe a healthy relationship has to be a partnership of equals based on open, honest communication and acceptance of strengths, vulnerabilities and differences.
I believe that humility and healthy self-esteem go hand in hand. Common interests are always a plus but there is something to be said for being exposed to new experiences.

I grew in Colorado and have been shaped the time I spent exploring the fabulous mountain, desert and prairie landscapes. Time outdoors and a connection to nature are integral to my physical and mental health. Love to hike, climb, cycle, ski, snowshoe and run.

The photos are all recent and accurately represent me as I am today.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Making mistakes
Subverting the dominant paradigm

Working, and sometimes, incrementally, making the world a better place, as well as keeping the bills paid.

Photography, hiking, climbing mountains, skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, running, camping, communicating with dogs
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Some things I'm good at (although there is always room for improvement):

Making people laugh
Communicating / listening
Treating people with respect and kindness
Rational thinking / problem solving
Getting around in the backcountry
Taking photographs
A variety of endurance activities such as running, cycling and skiing
Fixing stuff
The first things people usually notice about me

I have a hard time picking favorites and what I like best can change from day to day. My taste in music, film and books can tend toward the quirky but not always …

I love reading, but what but what and how much I read is highly variable. Recently, I have been on an environmental murder mystery kick ( if that is a valid sub- genre) and blew through series by Tony Hillerman, Nevada Barr, CJ Box, Carl Hiaasen and Dana Stabanow in just over a year. It's a phase.

Some more fiction: Lord of the Rings / Hobbit, Huckleberry Finn, The Hitchhiker's Guide series, the Golden Compass series (kids books but not really), The Big Sky

Some selected non-fiction: The Road Less Traveled, The Power of Now,1491, Tao Te Ching, A Walk in the Woods, Cadillac Desert, Desert Solitaire, Sand County Almanac

With regard to music I am all over the map - alternative, rock, blues, jazz, folk, reggae … Artists that come to mind (in no particular order: Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, Replacements, Girls, Sun Ra, Wilco, Sun Volt, Patsy Cline, Pixies, Richard Thompson, Aretha, Janis, Indigo Girls, Guided by Voices, Danielle Dax, David Bowie, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, Pavement, 10,000 Maniacs, Joan Armatrading, Joan Jett, M Ward, REM, Iris Dement, Tom Waits, Liz Phair, Billie Holiday, Hank Williams, the Beatles, Wilco, Son Volt, David Lindley

I always enjoy films but I don't always remember titles. A few that come to mind that do recall: The Graduate, Little Big Man, The Guard, Dark City, Man on Wire, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Silence of the Lambs, Tremors, Holy Grail and Life of Brian, As Good as it Gets, The Lord of the Rings

I have to confess that I don't really watch TV. There are probably things that I would enjoy watching from time to time but there are so many other things to do I really haven't felt compelled to get a cable subscription.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I don't think we really know what we can do until we have to. The list of things I would prefer not to do without is longer than six items and includes

Nature on all scales and its many forms but particularly wild places be they in the mountains, desert, ocean or whatever
My border collies
Clouds (no really)
The star strewn night sky on a moonless night, away from the city lights
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I wonder how much you can know about someone from the information they put up on a dating website …
and sometimes I wonder if the women with online profiles exist in the real world …
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Interested persons should inquire within …
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
If I did that here it wouldn't be private anymore, would it? You can always ask …
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If, based on my profile, I seem like someone you would like to get to know, of course … and if you are so inclined :)
