I am creative, inquisitive, and playful.

My Self-Summary

I'm basically an easygoing, fun person who enjoys having interesting conversations. I'm a huge fan of the arts, and I enjoy asking difficult questions about culture and society. I like going on bike rides around the city, spending time in the botanic gardens and reading poetry aloud. I play electric organ in a band around town, and go on tour every so often. I'd like to think that I'm creative, compassionate, approachable and have a healthy sense of humor.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a grad student in English Literature, applying for phD programs this year. I've been teaching elementary school for the past few years but I've been moving toward teaching at the university level. Lately I've been sitting in the gardens and reading a lot, teaching, making things, writing, and just enjoying the summer.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite poets are Lorca, Ashbery, Whitman, O'Hara, Rimbaud, Breton and Stevens. As for music, it changes, but I've been listening to Fela Kuti a lot, along with Beirut, The Clash, some 20's jazz and Motown hits. A really good bibimbap does the trick for me, or some really good salmon sushi.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, poetry, music, ideas, my bicycle, grass to roll around on.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Early 20th century French poets, African cosmogonies, Joseph Cornell's boxes, dying languages, democracy, things in the Met that are made out of mud.

On a typical Friday night I am

At a party somewhere, playing a show with my band, or just at home making collages and listening to NPR.
