I am curious, active, and exploring.

My Self-Summary

Howzit? I'm a well-traveled guy with diverse interests and a terminal travel bug who is always up for a good adventure. I enjoy exploring the amazing cultural fabric of NYC and afar, cultural happenings, photography, searching the city high and low for food finds, exploring the city by bike, or just hanging out with friends and doing not much of anything. I'm active and into the outdoors, walking, hiking, backpacking, biking (road/mtn), skiing, kayaking, sailing, and climbing when I can. I actually went to Space Camp as a kid and wanted to put that under "graduated from", but chose to select "masters" instead (why not room for both?). I'm a sucker for spontaneous travel to quirky destinations around the world, sake, asian food, and a great beach.

What I’m doing with my life

Exploring.

Professionally, I'm an executive recruiter (ummm, headhunter...). In a nutshell, I traffic people ;-) Different organizations retain us on senior level searches and I enjoy working with them to track down great people and make all the pieces fit.

I’m really good at

Navigating the city (and elsewhere). Picking up on short notice and flinging myself to some crazy destination around the world where I may not speak the language and fall off the grid and/or just have a great time exploring. Making people laugh. Sarcasm. Food finds. Urban cycling (in a former life I may have been a bike messenger). Rural cycling. Photography. Using ellipses...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: The Beatles (greatest musical group ever) and each of them solo, Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler, U2, Ben Folds, pre-muzak Elton John, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Sting/The Police, Queen, the whole 1986 Prince's Trust Wembley Benefit Concert ensemble (detecting a classic rock theme yet?), Peter Gabriel, Simon & Garfunkel (solo Simon too, but not solo Garfunkel), David Broza, Zucchero, -- a whole bunch of new stuff that pandora suggested, and more.

TV & Film: Anthony Bourdain No Reservations, endless reruns of various Law & Orders... The Usual Suspects, Kill Bill, Lethal Weapon (pre-insanity Gibson), Airplane, Caddyshack, Monty Python, James Bond, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Welcome to Sarajevo, Children of Men, Goonies, lots of foreign films and all sorts of other movies. Full disclosure: My ridiculous guilty pleasure film is Cannonball Run.

Food: All sorts of things from everywhere, but a few faves are anything Asian (like Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Japanese), a special shout out for dumplings, Turkish, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and Italian. I'm a sucker for a great burger, "ethnic" street food and from time to time an NYC dirty water hot dog. Bamba is a rarely-enjoyed guilty pleasure that I nevertheless hope won't rot my insides.

The six things I could never do without

Passport, camera, exploring, personal relationships, music, sunlight -- quickly, and in no particular order. Bonus thingy: my wok.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Too much...

On a typical Friday night I am

Not sure if I have a typical Friday night... I may be doing something exciting, or boring. Dinner, drinks, some live music or just hanging out sounds good for a Friday.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

UPDATE: So I just got this fascinating email from the okcupid intern kids giving me a geographical breakdown of where my best matches are. My number one country? South Korea! Who knew?!?! Sorry Israelis, you've got some serious competition! And Iceland's nipping at your heels, too! Nobody for me in Indonesia, apparently... So what does this all mean? Well, if I don't respond to your email, it's possible that I've run off to South Korea. Or not.

A few months ago I was walking in Tribeca alone when some youngish women on the other side of the street said "hey look, I think that's Ben Stiller!" I glanced at them, lifted up my jacket to hide my face and darted around the corner into the darkness as they giggled away. And I almost feel bad about it. Almost. Although my close friends don't seem to think I look like Ben Stiller, more than a few people I've encountered in my travels do (a significantly disproportionate amount of them German citizens -- care to analyze?). Thanks for humoring me.

You should message me if

You're open-minded, like to explore and try new things. You have an opinion. You appreciate the outdoors and enjoy being active. You like to laugh and can laugh at yourself. You are looking for someone to explore with. Or -- because you feel like it...
