My self-summary
I built my own desk. I love to travel solo, but also get a kick from traveling with friends. I once drove from Los Angeles to Anchorage, and then picked up a gig at the local paper, staying there for three months. Board games and geocaching can be fun, along with the outdoors, cooking, silly adventures. Exercise is important - running through Tilden or squash at the gym.My most recent project is a woodshop in my backyard, where I have been building simple furniture.
What I’m doing with my life
Medical school and journalism.
I’m really good at
Telling one joke. It involves the pope and a rabbi.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Yiddish Policeman's Union, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet, Ether Day, everything Sherlock Holmes, essays by Atul Gawande, Jonah Lehrer, David Foster Wallace, and many others

I love broccoli, stinky cheeses, bananas, oatmeal, peanut butter, dark chocolate, pulled pork, anything braised, strawberries, sweet potatoes, kale, carrots, yummmmmm. Now I'm hungry.

I like movies as pure entertainment - greek battles, robots fighting, wizards and worlocks, etc. I should probably put this under the most private thing I'm willing to admit... I liked all the transformer movies.
Robots fighting, yes.

TV: the office, downton abbey!, game of thrones. But I don't have cable or a tv for that matter.
The six things I could never do without
Family and friends, ya, those are givens. Books! Oh wow, I couldn't live without books. I couldn't live without the ability to communicate, to write. Laughter, those moments when it's so funny it hurts. Dancing, like a fool, to old music, to new music, with friends, with strangers.
On a typical Friday night I am
yes dance. There's a funny video. Youtube it.
libations - frothy and delicious.
reading - is it raining? is my favorite chair waiting for me in my living room? it might be time to stay in and read.
going to shabbat with my elder mentor
