My self-summary
I'm predominantly a happy person and enjoy spending time with those that are close to me. I have an interesting mix of Midwestern values and the drive to take them out of the Midwest...I've been in the DC area for 14 years now. This pretty much means I'm old, but also like living here enough to stick around. I bought a condo in NE and am more than excited to settle down here.

I'm a fan of live music, relaxing with a glass of wine and a book/movie, dive bars, unplanned evenings with friends that start out simple, but end with a story.

I am charming, genuine, and modest. ;)
What I’m doing with my life
I work with very close friends and am very blessed to have a strong support team to work with. This proves to be a great combo as a low stress day at work makes for a fun night, week, month...I like going to work!
Aside from that, I'm a people person and enjoy opportunities to get to know new friends. Whether it's getting a coffee, at a bookstore, or dive bar, I dig a good conversation.
I’m really good at
Sleeping in. Seriously. If there was an award given for that, I'd win hands down. The key is not to feel guilt. Everyone needs a late day in bed every once in awhile. *Update...I just got a puppy and sleeping in has been a thing of the past. But I'm realizing I can bring back the joy of a well placed nap.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd have to say I get questions about my eyes (do you wear contacts?) That or my smile. I tend do do that a lot. It's sorta hard to be overtly evil with a name like Joy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
East of Eden, Atlas Shrugged, The Grapes of Wrath, We Were the Mulvaneys, Edgar Sawtelle, So Big, The Bell Jar, Alice in Wonderland, Look at the Birdie, Slaughterhouse Five, Lullaby and anything by Chuck Palahnuik, Me Talk Pretty One Day and anything by David Sedaris...

Amelie, Four Rooms, Closer, The Princess Bride, Goonies, The Orphanage, The Fall, Red, White, Blue, I Love New York, Twin Peaks, Pulp Fiction, Up, The Royal Tenenbaums, Little Miss Sunshine, Rushmore...

David Bowie, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, Ima Robot, Tori Amos, Summer Birds in the Cellar, Ghostland Observatory, The Black Ghosts, The Rolling Stones, London Suede, Led Zeppelin, Aimee Mann, Madrugada, Elbow, The Talking Heads, BRMC, Pinback, The National, Jeff Buckley, Kings of Leon, The Cold War Kids, The Walkmen, M. Ward, Neko Case, The Danvilles...

Anything spicy. I love pho, my Mom's lasagna, mussels and wine, champagne and tater tots...
The six things I could never do without
Keeping in mind the standard goods are a given...(family, friends, air, water, etc)
Music
Long showers (hot in the winter and cold in the summer)
Strong coffee
A great book
A dark, dingy bar that is full of great music and conversation
Oh crap, that's 5...and I'm already searching...guess I don't need much. Let's go all out and break the rules then...love, fame, fortune, money, long life, world peace...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My pup and what we're going to conquer next in the world of training. Sticking around my condo or buying a home in the city. What shows are coming up next, how much I love living in the district and what adventures are around the corner.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no typical Fri night for me. If I had my way, I'd be out at a great live show with friends, or chilling with a nice glass of wine and a movie. Most recently taking my pup to the dog park or out at a BBQ with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
(I'm using the internet to find a date. Don't tell anyone.)
