What I’m doing with my life
Embracing and enjoying it. Going about my day with gratitude. Biking around the Concrete Jungle teaching yoga. Musing about life with friends. Swimming. Breathing deeply. Meditating. Reading. Listening to music. Smiling. Gathering & preparing (mostly, though sometimes going out for) good eats (for brunch today, during the wash cycle of laundry, I made myself a couple fried eggs on a bed of sautéed spinach & mushrooms topped with melted fontina, drizzled with truffle oil, with a side of (veggie) sausage - ☺). Watching the sun sink over the Hudson. Sleeping. Shaking my booty at some outdoor (or indoor) music. Heading up to Harriman & jumping in a lake. Having a pretty darn good summer. ☼
I’m really good at
hugging; seeing the light side; coming up with a plan in a pinch; putting people at ease; biking around the Core (my pet name for the Big Apple); making brunch; noticing details; enjoying; road trips (driving, snacks, tunes)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd like to think it's that my smile comes from the heart and I tend to make eye contact though apparently, if the # of comments I get from strangers is any indication, it's that I have some grey hair and I wear it as it is. Folks mention the smile too, though it baffles me how many people talk to me about my hair.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
geez... favorites...

right now on my nightstand, stacked in order of size - The Dhammapada - Eknath Easwaran translation (been reading this nightly); Touching Peace by Thich Nhat Hahn; The Samuari's Garden by Gail Tsukiyama; Anatomy and Asana: Preventing Yoga Injuries; Surfers Journal

no TV, and not even much online viewing. Recently enjoyed Searching for Sugar Man which made my face hurt from smiling so much and Beasts of the Southern Wild which took me by surprise and brought tears to my eyes. From my DVD collection - Globus: The Meaning of Light (made by a couple of surf photographers - awesome, beautiful, & inspiring); 1 Giant Leap; Hero

music - love it! don't even know where to start. Recently searched my 7000+ song library on itunes for "love" - nearly 700 songs came up - put the list on random and enjoyed Jimi Hendrix, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Sade, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Soundgarden, U2, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Grateful Dead, Gipsy Kings, Morcheeba, Chili Pepppers, Santana, Mary J, Buddy Guy, Pat Metheny, Public Enemy, Nina Simone, Ben Harper, Beatles, Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Elvis, BT, Coltrane, Peter Tosh, Queens of the Stone Age, Doors, Cowboy Junkies, Jack Johnson...

food - yum! Thai, Mexican, Indian, salads, stir fries, brunch...
The six things I could never do without
basics - fresh air, clean water, shelter, sunlight, fresh food - (obvious, though not taken for granted)
love (thankfully my heart overflows with it)
hugs and intimate connection
community and solitude
mindfulness
gratitude
I spend a lot of time thinking about
life, observing my mind (not thinking about observing it, actually observing it; it's endless entertainment), what's for dinner, how I can be what I want to see around me, how can I stay on top of all the paper that accrues in my apartment, what kinds of things do I/don't I want to support with my dollars, what's the wind doing, when is a mindful, available, easy going, healthy of body-mind-spirit guy going to cross my path once again, and as I write this list, wondering why my list of things I think about is comprised of how's and what's more than why's....
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging with friends or hanging at home - sure to be enjoying whichever it is.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Somehow I occasionally grow a rogue eye brow hair - of the kind I'd though were old man hairs.
You should message me if
you resonate with what I've shared, are an easy going, mindful guy who's more comfortable following his inner guide than the herd & who's looking for a friend, lover, and someone to grow with, AND you have space in your life to share.

Reveal Yourself

What's in your heart,
what lights your way?
What's in your wallet
doesn't always pay.

How clear is your mind,
what have you to say?
It's more than what's in your pants
with which I desire to play.

My spirit is free,
a grounded foundation I lay.
With gratitude and love,
I move through each day.

Show me your truth,
without delay.
Let's share our journey,
let's start today.
