I'm pretty nerdy. If I were a Platonic solid, I'd be a dodorkahedron.

I'm a programmer at a small company. I like it there because it's very laid back. Because it's small, I do all sorts of different things, basically anything that requires writing software.

I like traveling, but (as the cliché goes) I don't do enough of it. In 2012, I only went on one major vacation: a hiking trip to the Great Smokey Mountains. I love biking, especially mountain biking (which unfortunately there isn't much of nearby).

I have a cat named Catherine the Great, Empress and Autocrat of All the Russias (Cat for short).

Math. I'm the resident math geek at work, which is pretty bad at a company full of engineers. I'm very bad at arithmetic, though.

I don't talk much. Except when I've been drinking - then I never shut up. I've been complemented on my teeth and eyes, too.

My favorite book is Goedel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter. My favorite novel is probably Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson.

I'm not a huge movie guy. I prefer TV because so much more can happen in a series than a 2 hour movie. I'm a big fan of AMC shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. I like comedies like 30 Rock and Parks and Rec.

I like music that has intensity, whatever that vague term means. Some examples: Beck, Fugazi, High on Fire, The Melvins, NOFX, Portishead, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Ravi Shankar.

I like spicy food. I like fruit more than vegetables, and I like orange but not green vegetables. I like bread. I do not care for any sort of of seafood.

I hate "domestic" beer, which I call McBeer. I like IPAs, stouts, and porters. I like whiskey.

A computer. My favorite program is Emacs (if you've never heard of it, it just means you're normal).

My bikes (not motorcycles, real bikes). I bike all year, which is not as difficult as you might think. Though I've done some casual races, I am not a racer. I don't train. I just like to ride and transport myself in an enjoyable way.

Smartphone (which is a Galaxy Nexus at the moment). I used to have the most basic phone possible, but I'm sold on the smartphone idea. It just does too many things.

Bed. You spend a third of your life sleeping, might as well be on something comfortable.

TV (Netflix). It's nice to just turn off the brain once in a while.

If I would be better off if I didn't spend so much time in my head -- and I'm not just trying to be clever. I'm introverted and trying to be more open.

Maybe out with friends, more likely at home surfing the web or watching TV. Lately I've been doing trivia at Dempsey's. But what's so special about Friday? I always do something on Wednesday.
