My self-summary
I'm looking for a serious, happy, long-term relationship, and to have kids. I'm not looking for anything else.

I am warm and at the same time irreverent. Imaginative and curious, and also funny and playful. Adventurous, but laid-back too. Open and open-minded. Liberal and progressive, not conservative. I eat healthy foods, exercise, and live an active lifestyle. Keeps me fit. I look like my pics.

I love music (live too), biking, skiing, hiking, movies, theater, restaurants, museums, and animals. I love nature and the outdoors - and I'm distressed about the f@cked up state of the world.

I have close friends from my whole life going back to childhood, a wide variety of people, a few of them quite singular. I think it's something I'm lucky in. Maybe it's just because I have good, two-way conversations. Anyway I'm really social and love to get together with them all the time.

I love traveling. I've traveled a lot around Europe, the US, and the Americas. A year in England during college, and a bunch of trips back since. Some beautiful bike trips. A yoga ashram in the Bahamas last year (I'm still just a beginner - my breathing is always off). I want to go to the Far East, New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, South America, Berlin, Prague, or just escape to the forest in the Catskills.

I have two cats, sister and brother - I took them in long ago from a litter that needed homes, two because I thought one would get lonely. Also have a bunch of plants, because plants need homes too.
What I’m doing with my life
I've been living in Cobble Hill in Brooklyn for about 10 years. I was raised in a Jersey suburb outside New York City, which was more like Dazed and Confused and Mean Girls than the Sopranos or Jersey Shore. I work in software, a very pleasant place to be that lets me enjoy life - but I'm not at all a tech junkie, never have been. (Was a lawyer before, intended to go into environmental law, practiced a few years, didn't like it - I'm still as environmental as ever though.) Financially comfortable & stable.

I write stuff down, anything that comes to mind - funny, psychological, historical, scientific, philosophical. I've been doing that since high school. I think writing is fun and self-inspiring. Maybe I'll stick it all in a novel or short stories one day. I also write down my dreams, whenever I can remember them. My brother and I have embarked on recorded interviews of my parents, about themselves and the 20th century. We're doing it for posterity, for the world...
I’m really good at
I have a good sense of humor.
I'm good with words.
I'm pretty good at skiing and pool.
I'm good at having a conversation and not talking your ear off.
The first things people usually notice about me
I think my eyes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love the sublime and the strange.

My first album, chosen in 2nd grade under the guidance of my older brother, was the White Album. While still a kid I listened to it a million times, following the lyrics end to end. From there I've branched out to all different kinds of music today - too much to list, I won't list bands. Lately I've been listening a lot to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Black Angels. I still have my old vinyl, and a turntable, none of which sees much use.

As for movies, I like independent, old, foreign, arthouse. Some comedy and superhero movies from Hollywood. Great movies I've seen recently: Nashville, Husbands & Wives, Hero, Touch of Evil. If you want I'll send you my next 45 movies on Netflix to help you come to a decision about me.

A few favorite recent-ish books are Kavalier and Clay, Oscar Wao, The Secret History, and Tenth of December by George Saunders, and I love a lot of old ones too. I love to read. For news, NY Times.

TV - Portlandia, Jessica Jones, season 1 of True Detective, Game of Thrones, Making a Murderer.
The six things I could never do without
friends and family. adventure. great music, movies, books, art. something to write in, including the notepad in my phone. the outdoors. my bike. and of course love and affection.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
funny or interesting ways to describe things. the environment/the world's fate. beginnings and origins, and the evolution of things.
On a typical Friday night I am
out with friends, or staying in watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
more of a disclaimer than revelation of a secret:
the golf course pic of me is a rarity. i'm not a big golfer.
