My self-summary
Just finished up 6 years of being an NYC grad student, and now finally have my PhD. I work at a research center in midtown overseeing all our data-related stuff and running analyses. My research combines psychology and public health in the areas of sexual behavior and HIV, particularly for gay/bi/queer/etc. men, but I work on a variety of projects that focus on different but related topics. I'm a workaholic during the week and then compartmentalize it all away on the weekend.

Other than that, enjoy going out with friends and having fun, or staying in and watching movies/TV. Some things I enjoy watching are the Showtime/HBO series (true blood, game of thrones, the big C, weeds, US of Tara, etc.), L&O SVU, drag race, and shows on channels like Discovery and NatGeo. An interesting combination of interests, I know. For the most part, I don't get into reality TV.

I also cook well, but don't do it as often as I should because I get home late from work... and I hate cleaning up after. I have a very sarcastic personality, but can sometimes be a little reserved with it (and in general) when meeting someone new.
What I’m doing with my life
Now that I have my phd, I'm working towards my goal of getting a tenure-track faculty position - trying to get myself established as a researcher. Keeps me very busy, and I'm pretty passionate about it - it's a really good way to satisfy my curious nature in a productive way.
The first things people usually notice about me
I feel like it's different for everybody. My smile? The bright colors I'm wearing?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Oops, see above for the tv stuff.

Mostly psychology-related books, including some popular psychology. I rely more on movies and tv for my fictional pleasure.

I like a lot of different types of music and it usually depends on my mood - I tend to let Spotify create radio stations for me.

In terms of food, my tastes vary. I love salad - condiments are my favorite part of food (especially vinegar), and salad is a great medium for condiments. I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat beef, pork, or other mammals - I eat seafood and poultry.
The six things I could never do without
The internet
A job
My family
My cell phone
The future
I spend a lot of time thinking about
As a social psychologist, I spend a lot of time thinking about people and how they relate to each other. I also spend a good amount of time thinking about: my future, my job, candy, politics, gender, technology, sex, friends/family, money (or lack thereof), NYC, and many other things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Wishing I was at karaoke (if I'm not, in fact, at karaoke)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I usually find first dates to be awkward. Care to give me a new perspective?
