My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Lately, surviving the fug of a Philadelphia summer - rather well this year, thus far; devouring David Leavitt novels - the urban equivalent of beach reading; and doing Sunday crosswords on Saturday mornings in the coffee shop.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Staying curious about things - and trying to cultivate curiosity in others. I work and teach in the arts, and travel whenever possible. This summer I've spent time in the mountains of three different states, and taught a summer intensive course for K-12 educators for the third year running. Come fall, new undergrads, new seminars.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Authors: J.L. Carr, Patrick Gale, Alan Hollinghurst, M.R. James, H.H. Munro, Ray Bradbury, Iris Murdoch, Gary Snyder, Alan Watts, Virginia Woolf, Italo Calvino...

Movies: just about anything starring Tilda Swinton, William Powell or Myrna Loy... or directed by Ferzan Ozpetek or Hayao Miyazaki... David Lean/Noel Coward collaborations... Giulietta degli spiriti, Withnail & I... also lately I've been rewatching Northern Exposure and remembering how much I love it.

Music: BBC R3, The Books, Cole Porter, Vaughan Williams, Ratatat, Kate Bush, Kronos Quartet, Ride, Owen Pallett, Jefferson Airplane, Marc Silver & The Stonethrowers, Suzanne Vega, Steeleye Span, Jethro Tull, Nils Frahm... up-to-the-minute, I was delighted to wake up to Schubert this morning and can't wait for the new Zammuto album (and tour).

Food: umeshiso maki from Raw Lounge, dal makhani (and pretty much anything else) from Tiffin, smoky & spicy tofu burritos from Santa Fe Burrito, fudge donuts from Fisher & Donaldson, yasai yaki soba from Wagamama, tom ka from Citrus Club, anything from Spring Street Natural.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The sea, the woods, books, music, soap, and a keen appreciation of the absurd.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how I shouldn't be overthinking things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At an exhibition opening in support of a colleague or a friend, shaking it loose on a dance floor somewhere, or home with a movie or a book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm tickled by lolcats... and sorta allergic to real cats.
