My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
My friends describe me as positive, pragmatic, and level-headed. I suppose those are all positive qualities, but they're so... generic. So here's some more interesting stuff about me.

I love learning. A big part of why I pursued design as a career is that it involves having to learn a lot about companies'/clients' activities. Lots of people are doing lots of awesome things out there, and I love seeing and hearing about it.

It doesn't take long for people who go out with me regularly to notice that I get dessert almost every time. I love baked sweets. Most people count calories and work out to be healthy and look good. I do it so I can safely eat more desserts.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work in the marketing department for a non-profit senior health care organization. It's not what I expected to be doing (my education is in graphic design specializing in information display), but the job is is engaging and enjoyable. The wide variety of things for which I am responsible make my day-to-day experiences varied and interesting, so I never really feel "the grind." It's also the type of company that lets me tell myself I'm doing something good for other people.

I do still love design (especially typography), so I dabble into various side projects. I also do photography on the side.

Thanks to regular road trips throughout the Midwest, I never feel travel-starved. I hope to do lots of international travel in the future.

Some friends and I go to a different restaurant every other week in an effort to experience as much of Chicago's immense variety of great food as we can.

I don't read as ravenously as I did in the past, but still get through a book or two every month. I alternate between reading for entertainment and education, though sometimes I cheat to finish series.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm handy - knowledgeable and resourceful enough to do all kinds of useful things. I'm extra good at performing surgery on electronic devices and generally being tech-savvy.

I pick up games of strategy quickly.

Every year I'm in multiple fantasy football leagues and win or place highly in the vast majority of them, but I don't know if that makes me good or lucky.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Someone at the office who didn't know me referred to me as "a serious man with glasses," which has become a bit of a running joke. (I'm not actually that serious, I promise!)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I enjoy a little bit of everything and try to experience a wide variety of stuff. If I had to pick one common trend in things I enjoy, it's that I have a taste for the epic and grandiose. HUGE SPACE BATTLES tend to be my favorite thing across every medium, followed by fantasy-adventure stuff with well-developed worlds.

Books - fiction: fantasy, science fiction, and science fantasy; nonfiction: history, statistical analysis, game theory, and things related to my career. I force myself to alternate between reading a fiction and non-fiction book, though I sometimes cheat when a series involved. Recent favorites: The Name of the Wind, Dataclysm.

Movies: I can enjoy anything well-written, but I tend to enjoy action/adventure movies the most. Lately, I've enjoyed the various Marvel adaptations.

Shows: Pretty much the same as movies. I currently enjoy Game of Thrones like pretty much everyone else. Admittedly, I do much less watching of shows than the rest of these things by a large margin.

Music: Again, I enjoy a wide variety of stuff, but my favorites are generally classical and heavy metal. Beethoven, Metallica, Rachmaninov, Megadeth, Guns & Roses, Girls Generation. I sometimes turn on random genre stations on Pandora or Spotify to force some variety.

Food: I don't consider myself a foodie, but somehow I've surrounded myself with them so I've picked up a lot of food-related knowledge and experience anyway. I'll try everything at least once.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. I obviously couldn't do without my friends, family, and other great company.

2. The internet. Communicating, learning, and the many other things for which the internet is useful have become are a big deal for me.

3. Desserts and sweets. I would consider chasing a cupcake off a cliff, and decline only because dying means no future desserts.

4. My Kindle has been a real buddy for a long time. The ability to bring a collection books with me everywhere is amazing.

5. Public transportation and Uber, because they enable going out and having fun without having to worry about silly things like "getting home." I have a car, but rarely use it for anything other than getting to work.

6. My glasses. I'm glad they have become fashionable.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I read FiveThirtyEight and The Economist because they look and write about things in an analytical, thought-provoking way. I especially love when 538 looks at the numbers behind things most people just accept as true or false. Both places have their slant, of course, but provide enough raw information for me to develop my own opinions.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Usually I'm out and about, either doing something hobby-related or exploring Chicago's incredible culinary scene. Sometimes both. I've accumulated enough office clout to schedule things such that I can leave early on Fridays and chill for a while before heading out, and I'm not too tired to enjoy myself. That said, sometimes I just decide to crash at home anyway.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't like mangoes. I don't hate them or anything, but not absolutely loving them seems to make me a race traitor.
