My self-summary
I was born on the south side and live on the north side so I know the city pretty well and I also know that I am looking for a serious relationship with a woman who understands like me that "serious" can also mean a hell of a lot of fun.

I am pretty funny-I've been doing sketch and improv comedy for over ten years and I love to make people laugh, even if it's accompanied by a groan. I am kind and generous-being taught by Catholic nuns tends to make a boy that way. I am sensitive-being raised in a house full of women helped with that one I think, and they also taught me how to dance. I am romantic, thoughtful and hopeful-not sure where that started, but it's there.

I travel very well because I have former students/ friends in over 50 countries that house me and show me the best time when I visit them. Over the past few years, I've been to Italy, Spain, Colombia, Hungary, Peru, Brazil, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica. Stick with me and you will travel well-that I can guarantee.

I am also close to my family; in fact, I was living with my little sister for the past four years until she moved in with her husband, whom she met on this site. So, if OKC does nothing for me, at least it has given me a brother-in-law.
What I’m doing with my life
I teach adult ESL full-time to a selection of amazing foreign students downtown. I lived in Roscoe Village for a decade before I moved to the Southport area, so I am very skilled at avoiding strollers on my walks to the el. I also belong to an improv/ sketch comedy group; we met at Second City ten years ago and have stuck together, writing and performing.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh, making people think, wedding toasts (and eulogies, unfortunately), teaching English, relating to foreigners, thinking irreverently, thinking on my feet, playing volleyball, folding laundry, making sangria, recycling, dancing "Single Ladies."
The first things people usually notice about me
My blue eyes. My mother didn't call me "Sparkle" for nothing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I grew up on the Simpsons fan and have even taught an 'English through the Simpsons' class at my school. I generally have always preferred TV to movies, especially Lost, The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Breaking Bad, and for comedies, Arrested Development, Louie, Parks & Rec, Extras, Community, and Modern Family.

For movies, I love Once, Little Miss Sunshine, Finding Nemo, Superbad, Traffic, Crash, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Being John Malkovich, Pulp Fiction, The Hangover, Monsters, Inc., among others.

I love to read but tend to gravitate towards modern fiction. Books that I have adored include The Book Thief, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Art of Fielding, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, The Stranger, Harry Potter, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Plague, Angela's Ashes and 'Tis, Empire Falls and The Little Prince. I will also read anything that Jumpa Lahiri or David Sedaris put to paper and most of what Dave Eggers or Chuck Palahniuk do

In terms of music, I love hip hop, especially Kanye, Jay-Z, Eminem and Childish Gambino. I also love reggaeton and Brazilian funk....basically stuff to which I can dance because I love to dance. I also love most of everything WXRT plays since 93.1 has been playing in my house ever since I was a kid. I am always happy when they play the Killers, Tom Petty, Arcade Fire, Paul Simon, LCD Soundsystem, The Old 97s, The Postal Service, Wilco, REM or the Swell Season. XRT never plays Shakira, but they should. I love her too. I've seen HER whenever she has come to Chicago, but when I went to her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia but she was "too busy" to me meet me. After all I've done for her! We're still not speaking to each other.
The six things I could never do without
a sense of humor, my passport, the White Sox, my bike, my family, sour candy.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
English grammar, when the next time I can eat at Hot Doug's will be and which country I will visit next.
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out to dinner with friends, then to a bar. Or watching the Sox if they're in season.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Um...that I saw all 5 Spice Girls perform in Madrid? That I know all the words to "Party in the USA"? That I know the complete "Single Ladies" dance? That I wore all-black the day back in high school when "Full House" ended? I think I'm actually proud of all of this. I guess I don't embarrass easily.
I’m looking for
  • Straight girls only
  • Ages 28–40
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You actually mean it when you say that you're looking for a nice guy with a good sense of humor. I am one of those. I promise.

You respond, even if it is to say that you're not interested, to every message you receive on OKC. It just seems like human decency to me.

Maybe we can get together to grab a beer sometime. Or candy. I eat a surprising amount of candy for a grown man.
