Hi. My name is Julie and I live in Echo Park. I am a middle school math and science teacher who enjoys reading crime novels, playing pub trivia and doing crossword puzzles. I am a terrible dancer but I like listening to music and going to see bands. I also (usually) go running every morning. I really like to crochet and I wish I could sew, but I don't really have the patience to get good at it. I can speak German - but it's a little rusty, and I can speak some Spanish, but not as well as I'd like to. I'm also tall and I like to wear high heels. I hate the Dave Matthews Band and Jack Johnson.

What I’m doing with my life

I've been teaching middle school for 6 years. I'm working on getting my math and science credentials to teach high school. Also, I'm pretty active with the LAUSD teachers' union, UTLA.

cooking, teaching, trivial pursuit, crosswords, powerpoint presentations, arguing with people

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like crime novels, especially ones written by George Pelecanos, James Ellroy and Denise Hamilton. I also really like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. As far as movies go, I love David Lynch and Fassbinder. Forensic Files is my favorite TV show. My favorite bands are Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Pavement and The Smiths. I think that if I could see any musician at the height of his/her career, it would be Patti Smith, though. Some foods I really like are tomatoes, tuna sashimi and pho, but I'm not picky and I like to try new things.

The six things I could never do without

chap stick, altoids, inky black pens, my cell phone, a wristwatch and tapatio hot sauce

I spend a lot of time thinking about

how i can do my job better, the most efficient way to solve sudoku puzzles, how I need to start taking banjo lessons, LAUSD district memos and bulletins.

Also, do guys think that describing themselves as "foodies" will make them irresistible?

On a typical Friday night I am

having dinner and a few drinks with friends. Or watching Forensic Friday on True TV. I'll admit it.

I am afraid to try to solve a Rubik's Cube, because I'm worried I'll become obsessed.
