I am optimistic, thoughtful, and free on saturday :).
My Self-Summary
I am one of countless former students who has just recently joined
the real world in the workplace. I am a
computer programmer, which despite what
you might have heard is really not so bad. I am a musician,
balancing my time between enjoying the
music I still make (guitar, vocal jazz,
harmonica) and regretting the music I've left behind (piano,
drums). I am a
swing dancer, and if you ever visit
the Ottawa dance scene you'll probably run into me. I am an author,
writing bad sci-fi
and decent poetry when I get the chance. I am a reader, although my
several-books-a-week habit has been curtailed ever since I bought a
car (it's so much harder to read while driving than it is while
riding the bus). I am a thinker, a doer, a planner, a lover of the
English language, a Christian, a one-time fencer, a laugher, a
singer, and a good friend.
In short, I am a person just like the rest of you - deeper and more
complex than this box could ever express. And that's the way it
should be.
What I’m doing with my life
After five years I finally finished my degree! With that
under my belt I was able to find a software development job in
Ottawa pretty quickly.
Long-term plans? I plan to get in on the ground floor of the Next
Big Thing, become independantly wealthy, and spend my time writing
novels and playing music. Realistically? I'll probably stay in
Ottawa and work for the next few years (it's a good job). After
that - we'll see...
I’m really good at
I've been told I have a good memory... unfortunately it's mostly
used for remembering lines from movies and television. I also make
a mean cookie.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hard to say - it seems kind of rude to ask them when they've just
met me.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Lord Of The Rings trilogy (Tolkien); Snow Crash
(Stephenson); Mere Christianity (Lewis)
Movies: The Matrix; Star Wars trilogy (the original); Office
Space
Music: Where to start? I've got a lot of BNL and Great Big Sea. I
enjoy the Beatles, Metallica, Grieg, The Guess Who, Days of the
New, The Hip... it's kind of all over the map.
Food: Definitely pasta.
The six things I could never do without
Good friends, music, my computer, intelligent conversation, good
science
fiction, and absurd humour.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The many projects I'm usually involved with. I'm one of those
people who has to have lots of things going on at once...and when I
complete one thing, I find another pretty quick.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out with friends, maybe at the movies, maybe down on the Market.
Lately, I've been out swing dancing a lot...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm a pack rat. I keep everything, only to end up throwing most of
it out five years later. You just never know when you'll need it,
right?
You should message me if
If you are looking for someone to chat with, and think I sound like
fun, give me a shout!
Also, if you live in the Ottawa area and are interested in singing
in my jazz choir, just send me a message and I can give you the
details. I think I've got enough people, but that might
change.
