My Self-Summary

I'm happy in life right now. Really! Not being sarcastic! I've finally found the switch that makes me a contented, well rounded human being. As a bonus, I think I'm an optimist.

Being happy doesn't mean that things couldn't be better. I'd love to find a second half to share the world with. To discuss philosophy, economics, and random interesting observations about the world. To appreciate and love someone, and be loved as myself as well.

And being an optimist, I think the odds are good I'll find someone.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm lucky to have a interesting stable job with reasonable hours. I'm trained as a mathematician and computer scientist, and work as a programmer in the simulation world. But that's just by day....

I'm a freelance musician (violin) that prefers to play orchestra pit jobs. Ballet, musicals, opera; it's all good. This means I have enough clothes to wear all black for a long time before I have to do laundry. I do try to offset this by wearing more color on off days.

As I have relatives that live in Tokyo, I spend a good amount of time trying to learn Japanese. This has however degenerated as of late to lurking around Lang-8 more than spending time on okc. (I highly recommend Lang-8 for those learning other languages).

My more short term view involves probable move into a condo in a month or so. Being my first real 'home', I've been crafting a plan to transform an empty space into a hearth to come home to.

The first things people usually notice about me

People won't tell me. But I do gather that my appearance makes me appear anything from my true age to embarrassingly young.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Wicked, Timeline, Snowcrash, Neuromancer, Ender's Game, Recursion, Calvin and Hobbes. Reading through GEB (Gödel, Escher, Bach) right now.

Little Miss Sunshine, Miyazaki and Studio Ghibili films, plenty of others I'm not bothering to list.

Regularly watch Daily Show and the Colbert Report (keep up on the news and what not). Plus a good review on Saturday with Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. Also some random shows: Flight of the Conchords, Venture Brothers, ...

I also listen to Radio Labs. Fun stuff, makes for good stories at parties. Know how dolphins keep from drowning when they're asleep? Only half of their brains are asleep at any point in time. The other half is awake, moving the dolphin to the surface to breathe. Bonus food for thought: dolphins don't unconsciously breathe.

On a typical Friday night I am

Assuming I'm not working in the pit? Hmm.. Sometimes out with some friends. I'm past the bar scene at this point, but we do have a lot of fun staying in on our own (or heading out from time to time). Otherwise taking the night for myself to relax with a good movie.

You should message me if

If you're interested, drop me a line. Don't need to meticulously craft something if you're happy with your profile. Just say: "Hi! I'm interested in you. Read my profile, see if you're interested in me," adding a short question if you have something you want to ask.
