My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm originally from Michigan and plan to go back and be old there someday (at least in the summer). I've always loved freshwater lakes and dogs, preferably both at the same time. I spent a semester traveling in China from Beijing to Kashgar.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I've been in DC for almost five years and I like it quite a bit. I have a nerdy and fulfilling job and I live with a couple of my best friends from college.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Losing stuff! My cell phone, keys, staff ID, pretty much anything that can fit between my couch cushions finds its way there on the regular.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I laugh a lot.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

The last really good book I read was The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach. Before that was probably 11/22/63 by Steven King, The Social Animal by David Brooks, and Ready Player One by Edward Kline.

I'll see pretty much any movie once. I'm a huge movie nerd and am just as at home catching a 70's French murder mystery at E Street as I am enjoying "Transformers 6: Shia The Beef Goes Nuclear" at Gallery Place.

My idea of fascinating guilty pleasure television is Girls on HBO, not "Let's all get together and celebrate our lowest common denominator in this week's trendy geographical region" on Bravo. I still go back and watch old West Wing episodes, I'm certain I subconsciously came to DC thinking I would one day wake up and realize I had become Sam Seaborn.

Spotify says I'm currently listening to a lot of Jukebox the Ghost, Smallpools, X Ambassadors, Two Door Cinema Club, and CHVRCHES.

I love food. All food. I have this great cookbook called "A Man, A Can, A Plan" that I use regularly but that's the extent of my culinary expertise.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. My family
2. Our often ugly but always worth it democratic process
3. The Washington Nationals
4. Every season of How I Met Your Mother on Netflix
5. Plaid flannel
6. Baby carrots
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I'm going to do when I grow out of my government job track in 8-10 years. I'd love to do advocacy, I get jealous when I read on other people's profiles that their work allows them to focus on making one tiny part of the world a lot better, as opposed to trying to make the whole world just a tiny bit better. I don't know what type of work I want to do yet, but I'm thinking that drug policy and keeping the internet free will be fascinating areas to concentrate in.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Usually hanging out with friends, sometimes at one of our favorite dive bars and sometimes at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I work in politics and enjoy a heated discussion as much as the next nerd, but when I'm off the clock I'd almost always rather take in a great movie or great beer with great friends. Our democracy is an amazing thing to be a small part of, and I am deeply passionate about it, but it can be all-consuming in this town. There's more to life, you know?

You have a sense of humor about yourself, you're worldly but not pompous, you don't mind dating a pro-choice, pro gay marriage Republican, and you have a habit of seeking out and caring for those who can't care for themselves.
