I am autumnal, triple a rated, and impatient.

My Self-Summary

I was born and raised in Massachusetts and have caused mischief in different parts of the state for most of my life. Highlights include Amherst for education, Somerville for habitation, and ME/MV for vacation. And yes, Maine does count as part of Massachusetts, at least during the summer.

I once visited Europe on an orchestra tour, and explored the southern bits of Africa whilst serving in the Peace Corps. I did not mean for any of that to rhyme. Many future travels await; but would prefer to travel with a partner-in-crime.

The key word in the above paragraph is orchestra (or, as I call it, dorkestra). Music is a great passion in my life. When I attend a concert, the bass is almost always vertical rather than horizontal. I also play the trumpet with a semi-professional orchestra and if you joke about American Pie I will hate you forever.

Artistic nerdiness aside I do occasionally go outside. I love sailing, swimming, kayaking, really anything water-related. In colder seasons I reveal my inner ski bunny (no moguls, please).

What I’m doing with my life

Drinking a glass of orange juice when I get home from work while deciding what to make for dinner.

Dreaming fantastically vivid dreams that are fun to interpret.

Deciding if plenilune really is my favorite word.

Occasionally bumping into things-- and not because I'm clumsy, but because I have slightly defective retinas.

I’m really good at

logistics, aesthetics, criticism, debate, kissing

The first things people usually notice about me

Cute glasses, good posture

I have also been told I have an innocent face, which probably explains why I'm asked for directions every other time I go out in public.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books-
anything by Charles Dickens, David Sedaris, John Updike, Kurt Vonnegut or Christopher Hitchens

movies-
American Beauty, Stranger Than Fiction, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Usual Suspects, No Country for Old Men, Sideways, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Wonder Boys

music-
Radiohead, Rufus Wainwright, Elliott Smith, Bjork, Sigur Ros... Mahler, Debussy, Respighi, Shostakovich, Copland, Hayden

food-
fresh tomatoes, cheese, eggy dishes (scrambled, deviled, omeletted, etc), fresh squeezed orange juice, dark chocolate covered strawberries

The six things I could never do without

new ideas
Burt's bees lip-balm
classical music
a nice place to sleep
the ability to be fully submersed in water
toaster oven

I spend a lot of time thinking about

education, war, crime, weakness, art, sex, the future

And on a larger scale, I must quote Jean-Luc Picard:
"Considering the marvelous complexity of the universe, its clockwork perfection, its balances of this against that, matter, energy, gravitation, time, dimension - I believe that our existence must be more than either of these philosophies. That what we are goes beyond Euclidean or other practical measuring systems, and that our existence is part of a reality beyond what we understand now as reality."

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I don't know how to play chess.
