My self-summary
I'm intuitive and creative by nature, but also a shy procrastinator. I do like to leap spontaneously on occasion though. I'm a native Bay Arean, but have moved all over... a bit of gypsy in my heart. I left SF in 2003 for Tucson, AZ... ended up in Salt Lake City after a few years (and no, I'm not Mormon... it's funny how many people ask me that) then ended up in Los Angeles in 2011 to open an artisanal foods market for a restaurant group in Santa Monica. Having established the market, I moved back to San Francisco in September (2013) to work on our next projects.

I try to be open and honest, often more than is good for me. Sometimes I overthink and don't speak. Sometimes I speak as if thinking...

But more than anything else, I'm passionate about life and all it has to give. Good AND bad.

As much as identity interests me, I abhor labels. They are the root of all conflict, however in this society are sometimes a necessary evil. Politically, I can identify as queer, but the whole straight/gay/bi thing puts me off. Sexuality is a fluid thing, tho I flow most often towards the "fairer" sex and gender (read that as you may). For me, it's about personality, intellect, creativity, and connection.

I am comfortable, empathic, and luminescent (leftover from the ol' list three words that describe you)
What I’m doing with my life
I am a cheesemonger by passion and trade. having first worked the counter in Oakland in the late 90's, I was pleasantly surprised to land a gig on the counter shortly after moving to Salt Lake, and have had a grand adventure opening up the market in Santa Monica. Excited to return to the bay and see what's to come!

I've been blessed to have traveled the country and world as part of my job, exploring and learning everything I can about this wonderful society of artisanal and farmstead cheeses, bringing that experience back to my counter to share with each guest who comes into the shop.

I also deejayed music shows online via a webstream I shared with others on the internet for several years. Since moving to LA and putting my energies into the new digs, I haven't spun a live show in months. I will again someday though. I miss it.

...and one of these days, i'll write a book.

right now, (aside from work work work) I'm just enjoying being back in California and looking forward to the roads ahead.
I’m really good at
I've been told that I'm a good writer and lover and chef despite all my doubts at such... I tend to be good with my hands and my mind when it comes to anything creative. I've had myriad dreams, and nearly as many distractions, but seem to have found my niche in the world.
The first things people usually notice about me
my smile, my voice, my laugh, my calves (if I'm wearing shorts), hah... those are the things I've been told anyway.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
A. I'm into a lot of darker fantastic and surreal when it comes to words... Haruki Murakami, Neil Gaiman, Tolkein, C. S. Lewis, Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, James Crumley, Douglas Adams, Jasper Fforde, Ekaterina Sedia, Martin Millar...

B. so sue me, I'm a geek (who's bible was the trilogy growing up): Lord of the Rings... and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was an amazingly beautiful thing... I haven't related to something like that in ages. others: let the right one in, pirates of the carribean, pan's labyrinth, the dark crystal, labyrinth, mirrormask, big trouble in little china...

C. Doctor Who, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Dead Like Me, Twin Peaks, 30 Rock, Ab Fab, Rome, The Wire, Deadwood, Californication, American Pickers (can't help it!), Bizarre Foods, No Reservations, Top Gear... and I grew up watching PBS, so I owe a lot to: Monty Python, Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, and the Frugal Gourmet.

D. music makes my world go 'round... my loves and influences and reflections over the years have included: Tori Amos, Ani DiFranco, Poe, Neko Case, Metallica, Megadeth, Death Angel, Mordred, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Utah Phillips, VNV Nation, Covenant, Assemblage 23, Mindless Self Indulgence, Apoptygma Berzerk, Wumpscut, Combichrist, Obituary, Napalm Death, Sepultura, Morgoth, Elbereth, 3rd and the Mortal, the Gathering, Faith and the Muse, Siouxie and the Banshees, the Creatures, The Cure, Dead Can Dance, Manu Chao, Ofra Haza, Natacha Atlas, Chopin, Mozart, Tchaikovski... the list goes on...

E. (aside from cheese) sushi, Sushi, SUSHI... and every other genre and type of food really. faves being those of the spicy realm... Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Peruvian, Italian, whatever... curries, soups, roasts, grilled, poached, seafood, lamb, beef, pork, etc etc etc... I'm passionate about cooking and eating, and there's very little I avoid (can you say, "liver?" *shivers*)
The six things I could never do without
dreams,

friends,

tastebuds,

music,

the smell of rain,

memory...

I spend a lot of time thinking about
the past. I'm a dweller as much as a dreamer when I'm on my own. also the future. and what I'd do if I was rid of the constraints of time and money... or lack of both thereof!
On a typical Friday night I am
ramping up for the weekend, wondering what we'll be sampling on the counter and who will be calling out sick? Mondays are usually my Friday in which case I'm winding down from another 70 hour week and thinking about whether I'm going to go out and explore some new place to eat, take care of shopping and chores, or veg out to music or a good book...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
there's not much I won't admit to. I'm open like that, just ask. how about ironic? the most ironic thing, given my profession is that I'm lactose intolerant.
