books:
my taste in non-fiction is as idiosyncratic as my taste in fiction
is catholic, but I lean towards fantasy/sci-fi, 18th and 19th
century novels, historical fiction, mysteries, social history and
magical realism. I'm not much of one for super post-modern
experimentation--I like my fiction with plot, narrative and
character development.

Butler Yeats, Sylvia Plath, Mary Oliver, William Blake, Christina
Rossetti, Rumi, Sappho, Emily Dickinson, George Gordon Byron, T.S.

movies:
I have a weakness for period movies and good literary adaptations.
"Indie" films and smart comedies also get me going.
these stick out:
A Room with a View, Kissed, Wings of Desire, Pride and Prejudice,
Ridicule, Apocalypse Now, The Full Monty, The Rocky Horror Picture
Show, Maurice, The Lover, Bound, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Love

Television:
yeah, I admit it, I watch tv. We live in the golden age of
television, people!
I'm addicted to:
Buffy, Battlestar Galatica, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Life on Mars
(UK), Doctor Who, Torchwood, Firefly, Dexter, Archer, True Blood,
Wire in the Blood, Prime Suspect (both US and UK versions), La
Femme Nikita, Venture Brothers, Community, Angel, Primeval, The
Killing (DE).
music:
I generally like old-school punk, alt-country and bluegrass, 80's
new wave, classic goth-industrial, "alternative" music (esp of the
80's-90's), women who rock, britpop, triphop, punk-edged funk and
some classic rock. Music generally requires the human voice and
meaningful lyrics to touch me--for example, I'm all about female
jazz/blues vocalists but can't stand fusion/experimental
jazz.
some specific bands/musicians I *really* like:
Adam Ant, Amanda Fucking Palmer, Arcade Fire, Belly, Bessie Smith,
the Breeders, Carla Bozulich (and her former bands Ethyl Meatplow
and the Geraldine Fibbers), Johnny Cash, Cat Power, the Clash, the
Cure, Blur, the Breeders, Depeche Mode, the Dresden Dolls, Elliot
Smith, Fishbone, Fugazi, Gillian Welch, the Gossip, Hole, Inxs, the
Jam, Jane's Addiction, Jeff Buckley, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Liz
Phair, Led Zepplin, New Order, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, Nine Inch
Nails, Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey, Portishead, the Pogues, Pulp,
Rasputina, REM, Roxy Music, Sinead O'Connor, the Sisters of Mercy,
the Smashing Pumpkins, the Smiths, the The, the Throwing Muses, U2,
the Velvet Underground, the Violent Femmes, the White Stripes,
X.
Art:
generally, I'm very fond of baroque, medieval, gothic, art noveau,
mexican folk, outsider, assemblage and installation art and early
photography. I'm a figurative rather than abstract kind of girl
(seeing a pattern here?).
I'm enchanted by--
Joel Peter Witkin, Frida Kahlo, Julia Margaret Cameron, Marc Ryder,
Henry Darger, Martin Johnson Heade, Gustav Klimt, Aubrey Beardsley,
Joseph Cornell, Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Chiho Aoshima,
Bartolome Esteban Murillo, Lucian Freud.
food:
mmm. I like strong/complex flavors, just about any "ethnic" food,
including Thai, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Ethiopian,
Italian, French, Trinidadian, Malaysian, Afghani, Middle Eastern,
as well as chi-chi noveaux American, gourmet comfort food, really
good burgers, high quality chocolate in all its forms, the 4
element salad, vinegary anything and sweet, sweet carbs of all
kinds. I'm also a proponent of humanely and sustainably raised meat
and dairy, as well as local, organic and heirloom foods.
