I am poly, transgendered, and a geek.

My Self-Summary

I am a polyamorous person who is a transgendered wiccan vegan.

To other poly people: I have a mono partner, but she accepts that I am poly and not blind to others.

I do lobbying on Capitol Hill for things like ENDA. I am involved, in one way or another, with various trans groups. Yes, I am one of those activist types.

I became a Wiccan around 6 years ago. At the time, I was pretty much a member of my Parent's religion in name only and liked the idea of designing my own. I was not exactly sure how to answer the question here about 'how serious are you about your religion' as I have no plans to change it, but what I designed is based off of not taking itself seriously.

I have been a vegan since 1996, setting a goal to do it as a New Year's Resolution (I was already a vegetarian). I had the bright idea to ease into it by mixing soy milk and cow's milk. Well, I got the proportions wrong: after that drink I immediately could not stand either one so it made going vegan pretty easy!

Did not scare you off yet? Hmm, not sure if that is good or bad.

My BS is in physics and my MS is in computer science. I wanted that second degree to be in computational physics but I could not convince my parents it was a real field (and not just an excuse to have fun). Since they were paying the bills I chose the next best thing.

As you have probably guessed, I am a big geek.

What I’m doing with my life

Doing things I did not expect to be doing seems to be a theme for me.

I grew up in New Hampshire but somehow wound up in DC.

I started studying Physics but am now a computer programmer.

My initial professional job was as an IT Contractor but now work for a nonprofit.

About the same for being pagan, polyamorous, bisexual (which I now define as pansexual), and transgendered.

I’m really good at

Coming up with new and unique ways of looking at things.

The first things people usually notice about me

A tossup between the fact that I seem never to have heard the phrase 'act your age' and that I get along so well with their cat who hates any stranger.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: A really wide range (does 'I need a room for my bookshelves' give you an idea)! I lean to science fiction often though: Herbert (both), A.C. Clarke, Heinlein, Douglas Adams.

movies: I mostly prefer sci-fi, comedy, and action movies. Some drama for good measure (I LOVED Twilight). Movies that are out-of-the-ordinary (like Run Lola, Run) are a particular draw.

music: Most of my music tastes were set in high school, which means 80s rock. Like everything else though, I like some variety: some modern pop, Irish tunes, and various tunes I have come across played by different DJs. About the only genres I am not wild about are rap and country/western (well, some country songs I like).

food: Good vegan food! Which is available in a lot of different cultures. Which means I could be having Ethiopian one night, Indian the next, then maybe some Thai. As opposed to people that have one or two set meals.

The six things I could never do without

my partner
cuddling
computer
good vegan food

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Gender identity issues from the political to the spiritual. I am also very attracted to the energy of other trans people.

On a typical Friday night I am

Playing on computers until going to sleep around midnight. I take medication that makes me drowsy so not a night owl.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

That there are very few private things I am not open about.

You should message me if

You have a special relationship with gender or if you find me interesting.
